Chief Accountant

We are looking for a meticulous Chief Accountant to join our finance team. This role is responsible for supporting the entire accounting cycle, including monthly closing activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, vendor and customer accounts, and sales tax compliance. The accountant will also oversee payment cycles, participate in billing and cash flow management, while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.

Your main responsibilities will include

• Participate in monthly end-of-period closing activities, including vendor accounts, customer accounts, credit card expenses, and account reconciliations.
• Supervise weekly vendor payment cycles, payments made through bank portals, and track cash flow needs.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and sales tax returns.
• Account for and reconcile intercompany transactions and ensure the accuracy of the general ledger accounts.
• Contribute to budgeting, financial forecasting, and variance analysis by providing reliable financial data and relevant insights.
• Utilize artificial intelligence and automation tools to enhance accounting processes, report accuracy, and operational efficiency.
• Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement process improvements within the accounting function.
• Support the team during audits by preparing reconciliations, supporting schedules, and required justifications.
• Organize and maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date financial records.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience in accounting within a multi-entity legal environment.
• Experience with an ERP system.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, work autonomously, and collaborate effectively within a team.
• Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
• Strong interest in learning and motivation to adapt to new systems in a constantly evolving role.
• Proficiency in both English and French, both written and spoken (The position requires regular interaction with colleagues, vendors, and clients based outside Quebec, nationally, and internationally).
