WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation, management, and processing of bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
- Supervise checks and control activities for each payroll cycle, including reconciliations and timely transmission of all mandatory payments and payroll-related declarations.
- Complete a full annual payroll cycle, including year-end closing, tax and government filings.
- Reconcile all disbursements and track deficits related to the review of pensionable earnings and benefits (REB).
- Produce payroll, benefits, retirement plans, and reports and payment requests to third parties.
- Provide payroll reports as needed, such as the general ledger (GL), workers' compensation claims, etc.
- Ensure compliance with provincial laws and regulations.
- Provide advice and information on payroll matters.
- Support external auditors during intermediate and annual payroll file audits.
- Participate in the review, development, and documentation of payroll policies, procedures, and controls.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by implementing process changes and system enhancements.
- Respond to employee questions regarding payroll and Service Canada requests.
- Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
- Perform any other related tasks as needed.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
- Bilingual (French and English);
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a similar role;
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation;
- Professional payroll certifications, such as Professional in Payroll Compliance (PCP) or Accredited Payroll Manager (APM), are an asset;
- Experience with payroll service providers, such as Dayforce or Ceridian;
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and customized reports;
- Strong attention to detail and high level of precision;
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to take proactive initiatives to resolve issues and improve payroll processes;
- Skill to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and handle multiple tasks;
- Ability to develop effective working relationships, with a willingness to collaborate and support others in executing payroll tasks and requests.
