Animal Handler and Customer Service Representative

The SPCA Roussillon is a charitable organization whose mission is to help animals in distress, without owners or neglected. We offer animal services on a territory of more than 38 cities in the region. We welcome families from all over Quebec and neighboring provinces to our adoption center, which helped more than 2105 animals find a family last year.

Job Summary: We are looking for a person to join our team as a Customer Service Representative and Animal Handler. The objective of this position is to provide good service to customers and take care of the animals.

Job Title: Customer Service Representative and Animal Handler

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: $18.50/hour

Employment Type: Full-time position, including one weekend every two weeks, with a daytime schedule, ideally for a long-term commitment.

Customer Service

• Always respect the biosafety protocols in effect at the shelter.
• Welcome citizens who come to the shelter warmly and meet their needs.
• Manage the arrival of animals brought by citizens (abandonment, stray animals, trapped animals in cage traps, wildlife animals).
• Accompany citizens in the process of reclaiming their animals.
• Guide potential adopters throughout the adoption process and finalize the transaction.
• Update the descriptive files of animals available for adoption.
• Monitor the general health status of cats in the holding pens and report any anomalies.
• Place merchandise for sale, ensure its presentation, and manage donations received.
• Contribute to the management of the shelter's social networks to attract new adopters and promote animals for adoption.
• Perform any other tasks related to the responsibilities of the position or requested by the administration.

Animal Handler

• Always follow the shelter's biosafety protocols.
• Ensure that all cats have water, food, and necessary supplies such as a blanket, toys, and clean litter.
• Ensure that the maintenance of all spaces dedicated to cats is carried out according to established protocols.
• Ensure that all empty enclosures have been disinfected according to established protocols and are ready to receive a new cat.
• Perform washing, cleaning, and disinfection of equipment.
• Ensure the health and well-being of the cats.
• Observe and analyze the behavior and personality of the cats.
• Note the health evidence of each animal and transmit important information to the medical team.
• Perform any other tasks related to your responsibilities or requested by the administration.

Qualifications and Skills Required

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Animal-related training (Asset).
• Availability to work one weekend every two weeks.
• Kind and respectful attitude towards all types of animals.
• Relevant experience in a similar position for at least one year (Asset).
• Good sense of observation, attention to detail, and reliability in task execution.
• Ability to communicate effectively in French and English, both orally and in writing, to provide quality service to customers.
• Comfortable in an environment including domestic animals, exotic animals, and wildlife.
