Founded in 1985, Nouveau Départ Clinic – EHN Canada offers specialized services to individuals struggling with issues such as alcoholism, addiction, and/or other forms of dependence. The clinic not only addresses dependence issues from various sources but also comorbid mental health disorders presented by some individuals.

Missions and Responsibilities

Under the authority of the department head, the 'patient support' position involves being present, attentive, and available for residents. You must monitor patients and report any changes in their physical, emotional, or mental state. The 'patient support' communicates the patient's status, including changes, periodically to the assigned therapist and/or nurse on duty.

Tasks

• Establish a helping relationship – provide necessary support to patients, prevent isolation;
• Intervene in crisis situations;
• Ensure the presence of patients at all times during therapies, make rounds;
• Follow the directives of nursing staff, therapists, and physicians;
• Manage patients' personal belongings, handle luggage and personal items upon arrival and departure;
• Assist patients who lack full capacity, autonomy (e.g., laundry and room cleanliness);
• Accompany patients in their daily activities, medical examinations, walks, personal shopping, etc.);
• Handle certain household tasks – disinfect and ensure the cleanliness of common areas, empty kitchen trash, disinfect emergency and isolation rooms, etc.

Skills and Experience

• Ease in relating with beneficiaries and desire to help them
• Demonstrate good listening skills, ability to intervene in crisis situations
• Demonstrate a positive and team-oriented attitude
• Be autonomous and resourceful, have good judgment
• Be proactive and keep calm
• Respect confidentiality
• Good physical stamina and emotional balance
• Master French and English
• Obtain RCR training – mandatory
• Obtain PDSB card
• Obtain DEP – Personal Assistance in Health Care Facilities
• Knowledge in mental health and addiction (an asset)
• High school diploma or equivalent.
