The Restructuring and Turnaround Practice within KPMG's Transaction Advisory Services assists companies facing financial difficulties and economic uncertainty for various reasons, such as poor performance, an impending liquidity crisis, or the inability to mobilize new capital. When companies are struggling, our team provides financial advisory services to lenders, management, the board of directors, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders.
Through sound advice and proposals, we strive to change the game for entrepreneurs, executives, business owners, and their employees, partners, and stakeholders facing financial difficulties and a concerning environment. Restructuring and Turnaround professionals assist boards of directors and business owners in turning around, restructuring, or selling their businesses to preserve and restore viability and profitability.
We also advise banks and other lenders on the financial health of clients in their loan portfolios.
We guide our clients through the entire process of turning around or restructuring their business, whether it's providing advice on the strategy to adopt, identifying early in the process the elements at risk, or coordinating and executing the work.
Our clients are private and public companies and lenders. What You Will Do
The Restructuring and Turnaround team in Montreal is looking for someone with the skills and motivation to make things happen.
As a Director / Principal Director, Restructuring and Turnaround, you will leverage your professional and technical skills in finance, strategy, financial restructuring, and commercial operations for a wide range of transactions and at different stages of transactions.
- Conduct financial analysis (and develop complex financial models) of companies in various industries, including examining activities and cash flow
- Participate in independent examinations of activities and assist in the restructuring or refinancing of underperforming companies
- Take possession of assets and protect them, including in the context of sequestrations
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of reports
- Communicate directly with various parties (clients, other advisors, stakeholders, etc.)
- Participate in business development initiatives
- Provide information on analyses and market studies
- Inform clients about laws and compliance issues
- Use your negotiation skills to define common ground and mutually beneficial solutions
- Contribute to business development and the acquisition of new clients
- Provide exceptional customer service by maximizing results and stimulating high performance from staff, while fostering collaboration between services and boundaries
- Manage the execution of various projects, ensuring the quality of work and the respect of deadlines, budget, and client needs and expectations
- Exercise a positive influence on clients, teams, and employees by setting an example and establishing trust as a representative of KPMG's Transaction Advisory Services
- Train and mentor less experienced team members and provide them with stimulating and enriching opportunities for professional development
What You Bring to the Role
- Hold a professional designation as a CPA
- Hold a CIRP certification and a bankruptcy trustee license are assets
- 2-3 years of experience in restructuring and insolvency
- 1-2 years of experience at a management level or equivalent in an advisory and/or business environment, including
- + Financial due diligence or mergers and acquisitions (M&A) analysis
+ Interpretation and analysis of financial statements, including an understanding of the application and compliance with GAAP standards + Professional report writing and presentation skills to help prepare presentation documents + Experience in business development, financial modeling, and commercial analysis will be considered an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French
- Must be able to obtain a government security clearance
The candidate retained will need to demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills in English, with the ability to present complex strategic topics to a diversity of stakeholders in the anglophone regions of Canada, such as Ontario.
