The Shipping and Receiving Lead is a hands-on leader who guides their department in delivering the established operational plan as efficiently as possible by embracing daily management systems, particularly in occupational health and safety, quality, sanitation, and food safety.
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you are responsible for coordinating and driving the performance of your department. You will oversee daily operations in accordance with established productivity, cost, and quality standards to ensure shipping deadlines are met. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of operational performance and standards while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Health and Safety requirements, and HACCP standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and validate daily receiving and shipping operations, including the preparation and verification of documentation such as delivery notes, export documents, and shipping records.
- Load and unload trucks during daytime operations, with overtime as required.
- Communicate with personnel responsible for order processing, deliveries, and transportation as needed.
- Review daily operational requirements with the supervisor and assist with additional tasks to complete the work shift when required.
- Utilize available technology and systems, including computers, handheld scanners, and software applications.
- Perform inventory verification and make system adjustments to ensure the accuracy of finished goods inventory.
- Ensure all required forms and records are completed accurately and in compliance with established procedures; report non-conformities to the immediate supervisor and follow up as required.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and U.S. Inspection teams, responsible for conducting tests, analyses, inspections, and controls related to equipment, processes, and products.
- Perform quality control checks prior to the shipment of finished products.
- Assist with the monthly inventory count of consumable supplies alongside the designated team member at month-end.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Main Responsibilities
- Relevant experience in shipping and receiving, ideally within the agri-food industry.
- Hold a valid and up-to-date forklift operator certification.
- Demonstrate leadership, initiative, autonomy, and availability.
- Ability to communicate in a constructive and positive manner.
- Serve as a role model by being punctual, reliable, versatile, and methodical.
- Excellent judgment and effective time and priority management skills.
- Ability to handle stress and work effectively under pressure.
- Knowledge of CanadaGAP standards, as well as food safety standards (HACCP, GFSI) and occupational health and safety regulations, are considered strong assets.
