PROFILE

The Montreal office is currently looking for a legal technician in litigation who will primarily work on actions and applications before the Federal Court and the Superior Courts of Quebec. The person we are looking for must be proactive, possess a strong professional ethics, and be able to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize and manage litigation files, including the use of litigation management software such as ACL.
  • Prepare the schedule of proceedings, keep up-to-date case reports, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Act as a liaison agent with clients, administrative assistants, and professionals.
  • Communicate in writing and in person with court staff to foster a collaborative relationship.
  • Draft or participate in drafting documents for the court, including affidavits, applications, affidavits of documents, fee memoranda, etc.
  • Ensure the filing and service of documents with the court.
  • Stay up-to-date with court practices and opinions.
  • Create a database of documents, establish cross-references between court-produced documents and exhibits, and keep copies of transcripts for research purposes using litigation support software such as Relativity.
  • Organize files for trial; help coordinate access to courtrooms and configure electronic access during trials.
  • Provide pre-trial and trial litigation support and coordinate the presence of witnesses.
  • Review transcripts to summarize and prepare to-do lists.
  • Gather responses to undertakings.
  • Handle the production and notification of documents in Canada and coordinate the service of documents abroad.
  • Prepare charts, timelines, and summaries of documentary evidence for the purpose of pre-trial and trial.
  • Consult or file court documents with the Federal Court Registry.
  • Perform any other tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in legal technology and at least five (5) years of experience as a legal technician or paralegal, along with a good knowledge of legal policies and procedures.
  • Experience before federal and Quebec courts.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (particularly Word and Excel), as well as Kofax and Acrobat software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience with the Relativity platform.
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work effectively.
  • Ability to work autonomously while actively collaborating within a large team.
  • Proficiency in both French and English is an asset.
