Under the responsibility of the General Manager, the Production and Methods Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating manufacturing activities to ensure efficient, safe, and on-schedule production. By intervening in the early stages of manufacturing drawing preparation, they anticipate production needs, optimize manufacturing methods, coordinate supplies, and ensure optimal use of internal and external resources.
As a key player, this person also coordinates between engineering, purchasing, logistics, project managers, the workshop, and subcontractors to maintain a continuous production flow until component delivery to the site.
Your Daily Life in Our Team: Main Responsibilities
Production Planning
- Analyze manufacturing drawings before final approval to anticipate production needs.
- Determine the project's manufacturing strategy.
- Plan the sequencing of simple and complex pieces to optimize production flow.
- Evaluate manufacturing hours according to standard times.
- Establish manufacturing priorities according to project deadlines.
- Maintain and update the production schedule.
- Adjust planning according to unforeseen events, priorities, and plant capacity.
Manufacturing Method Review
- Analyze proposed manufacturing methods and recommend improvements to increase productivity, quality, and safety.
- Identify opportunities to simplify assemblies or manufacturing sequences.
- Collaborate with engineering to integrate best manufacturing practices from the design stage.
- Participate in continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.
Supply Coordination
- Verify the availability of raw materials and components needed for manufacturing.
- Identify critical or long-lead-time items.
- Coordinate needs regarding anchors, bent plates, machined parts, specialized hardware, and other externally manufactured components.
- Collaborate with purchasing to prevent supply disruptions.
Production Capacity Coordination
- Evaluate internal production capacity.
- Identify risks of overloading or capacity constraints.
- Recommend the use of subcontractors when required to meet deadlines.
- Plan and coordinate work assigned to external suppliers.
Logistics and Project Coordination
- Ensure the link between manufacturing, logistics, and project management teams.
- Collaborate with project managers to align production with site needs.
- Plan deliveries based on assembly sequences and construction deadlines.
- Ensure components are manufactured and shipped in the correct order to support assembly operations.
- Participate in coordination meetings with various stakeholders when required.
Production Tracking
- Perform daily tracking of project progress.
- Identify deviations between planning and actual production.
- Update production results (hours, quantities produced, project progress, efficiency, etc.) in management systems.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of production data to maintain reliable dashboards and performance indicators.
- Produce, analyze, and communicate production performance indicators (KPIs) to management and relevant teams.
- Identify deviations between planning and actual production.
- Implement necessary actions to minimize impacts on deadlines.
- Produce performance indicators related to production.
- What Makes You Unique to Lainco:
Desired Profile
- DEC in mechanical engineering, construction, industrial drawing, civil engineering technology, operations management, or any other relevant training.
- Significant experience in steel structure fabrication may compensate for a different education.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the steel framing, metal fabrication, or construction industry.
- Experience in production planning, operations coordination, or manufacturing project management.
- Good understanding of steel structure fabrication and assembly operations is an asset.
Technical Knowledge
- Reading and interpreting workshop drawings.
- Good knowledge of steel structure manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of on-site assembly sequences.
- Understanding of logistics issues related to steel structure delivery.
- Knowledge of production planning methods and standard times.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of an ERP is an asset.
