Medical Waste Handler

Under the supervision of the Transport Supervisor, the Medical Waste Handler is responsible for collecting, emptying, and replacing biomedical waste containers in hospitals around Saint-Jérôme. The person holds an internal service role in care units and contaminated utilities, working closely with hospital staff to ensure secure, clean, and compliant management of biomedical waste. Employment Conditions *

Status: Full-time, permanent, hourly paid position *

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (or weekend if preferred). Flexible hours according to the candidate's preference. *

Salary: $25 per hour * 2 weeks of vacation + 5 personal days after 3 months * Vehicle allowance and reimbursement of mileage * Comprehensive collective insurance program: health, dental, vision, etc. * Retirement savings plan with employer contribution ### Main Responsibilities * Circulate through different care units, blocks, clinics, and service areas of hospitals in Saint-Jérôme and surrounding areas (Sainte-Agathe, etc.) to: * + Collect biomedical waste containers (e.g., sharps and tranchants, infectious waste) when full. * Empty or replace containers, following established procedures. * Ensure clean, in good condition, and properly labeled containers are always available in designated areas. * Intervene in contaminated utilities, treatment rooms, and other designated areas for biomedical waste management, respecting hygiene, safety, and infection control standards. * Visually check the condition of containers (integrity, closure, fill level) and report any issues or non-compliance to the supervisor or hospital representative. * Strictly apply secure biomedical waste handling procedures, including: * + Wearing required PPE (gloves, goggles, etc.). * Following established pathways and circulation zones set by the hospital. * Following internal protocols and regulatory requirements (e.g., MSSS, CNESST, environment). * Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in temporary storage areas and work areas related to waste containers. * Provide courteous and professional service to hospital staff, answer basic questions about containers, and direct more technical questions to the designated responsible person. * Complete, if necessary, simple records or forms related to container rotation or collected volumes, following company practices. ### Desired Profile * Ability to perform physical work: walk for several hours, push and pull carts, lift and handle containers in a safe manner. * This position involves daily travel within the assigned territory. The candidate must have access to a vehicle and be comfortable with daily travel as part of their duties. * Comfortable in a hospital environment (presence of patients, medical staff, odors, biomedical waste in sealed containers). * Strong sense of responsibility in health and safety at work, with a good respect for standards and procedures. * Attention to detail and rigor in task execution. * Reliability, punctuality, and autonomy in organizing daily hospital tours. * Customer service attitude focused on collaboration with healthcare teams. * Good time and priority management to cover all assigned units. * Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with the team and supervisor. * Excellent French language skills to communicate with clients.
