As a municipal inspector, you will use your expertise and judgment to serve the community by ensuring the respect of regulations, the quality of the living environment, and the harmonious development of the territory.

Your future team

Your direct manager will be Patrick Gingras, head of the permits and inspections division, and you will be surrounded by a team of about 6 municipal inspectors. The Urban Planning Service, on the other hand, is composed of about 16 employees.

Your main responsibilities

• Inspect the territory of the municipality to identify violations of urban planning regulations and other regulations and follow up on them;
• Analyze and verify the validity of complaints, make recommendations, and notify the appropriate parties. Prepare and issue violation notices, prepare court files, and act as the main witness in various judicial instances and follow up on them;
• Receive and verify the compliance of permit, plan, or other document requests, study them, issue the appropriate permits and certificates according to the current municipal and provincial regulations, and follow up on them;
• Conduct inspections of buildings or dwellings to verify their condition or cleanliness; produce a report of findings and testify when summoned;
• Participate in studies aimed at modifying municipal regulations related to your field of activity and submit recommendations;
• Write reports on activities under your responsibility and produce the related statistics;
• Develop and maintain files, classification systems, registers, schedules, files, and directories; undertake the steps or research to complete the data related to these files; and follow up on them;
• Collect the amounts of money in payment of permits and certificates;
• Prepare technical files for the urban planning advisory committee;
• Use various office software, equipment, and devices;
• Drive vehicles weighing less than 4,500 kg; complete a preventive inspection form.

The prerequisites

• College diploma (DEC) in urban planning and development techniques or any other relevant training;
• Minimum of 18 to 24 months of relevant experience in the municipal field;
• Mastery of oral and written French; and good knowledge of English;
• Good knowledge of the Internet and MS Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook) and various computer and office equipment;
• Very good knowledge of the PG Solutions and Accès Cité Territoire software;
• Good knowledge of the Quebec Building Code and the National Fire Prevention Code;
• Mastery of computer tools related to presentations, graphic illustrations, and geomatics, an asset;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and customer-oriented vision;
• Ability to influence and negotiate to achieve set goals;
• Capacity to work under pressure, team spirit, judgment, sense of responsibility and organization;
• Be flexible for external travel to carry out interventions and meet citizens;
• Class 5 driver's license, valid.
