About FerLab

FerLab is a software development team at the Research Centre of CHU Sainte-Justine, under the supervision of Dr Vincent Ferretti. The goal of FerLab is to develop efficient applications and technologies that optimize the use of massive health data for research, thereby contributing to the improvement of treatments and diagnoses for small patients at CHU Sainte-Justine and around the world. It is an indispensable support for the advancement of research in genomics and biomedicine.

The Role

We are looking for a DevOps Specialist to strengthen our team. At FerLab, infrastructure as code is our way of working: everything is versioned, automated, and reproducible. You will not be attached to a specific project, but you will build and evolve operational solutions for several types of infrastructures: on-premise, AWS, and our OpenStack (SD4H) environment hosted at Calcul Québec. We prefer open source as much as possible and use modern technologies, such as Kubernetes and Terraform, to host datasets of several petabytes and dozens of billions of entries.

Concretely, you will have to:

  • Maintain and evolve our GitOps processes
  • Analyze, deploy, and operate external solutions that our system depends on
  • Support developers in deploying and operating their services
  • Analyze and integrate (or develop as needed) solutions to support the development team
  • Continuously improve our operational solutions
  • Analyze the security of the solutions implemented
  • Ensure continuous monitoring using metrics, alerts, centralized logs, and traces
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of our operational tools

Desired Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent field
  • Experience as a DevOps developer or in a similar role in software engineering
  • Experience in infrastructure orchestration, Linux administration, and network infrastructure
  • Excellent knowledge and mastery of several of the following technologies: Kubernetes, Terraform, OpenStack, Libvirt, FluxCD, Fluentd, Prometheus, and Golang
  • Mastery of French both orally and in writing (mandatory)
  • Resident of Quebec (mandatory)

What Will Set You Apart

  • Be autonomous and show initiative: once the objective is understood, you move forward on your own, communicate directly with the right people without waiting to be asked
  • Be pragmatic: you know the standards and best practices of the industry, but you know when to apply them and when they are unnecessary
  • Be curious and enjoy learning
  • Show flexibility and openness to new ideas
  • Be as motivated by our cause as we are

Benefits of Joining FerLab

  • Remote work or on-site
  • 35 hours/week
  • Flexible schedule
  • 4 weeks of vacation after the first year
  • 9.6 paid sick days (including 3 personal days)
  • 13 paid holidays
  • A generous pension plan with guaranteed benefits
  • A collective insurance plan and an employee assistance program
  • Freedom to choose your work environment: Linux or Mac
