Reporting to the Commercial Director, the External Sales Representative will work in collaboration with the account management team and be responsible for purchasing scrap metal products (from dealers/inter-businesses). They will also be tasked with developing and maintaining exceptional business relationships with new and existing customers. This position requires a dynamic and initiative-driven individual, capable of working closely with all staff and departments of the company, as well as with customers and suppliers.
- Purchase scrap metal to meet or exceed tonnage objectives while optimizing profit margins;
- Visit dealers and industrial suppliers, by phone or in person, to promote new and repeat business, offer prices, provide customer service, answer questions, address complaints, and build relationships;
- Prospect for new customers;
- Develop reliable networks of contacts that will provide up-to-date information on purchase/sale prices and local and regional market trends;
- Negotiate new contracts with customers;
- Perform P&L analyses;
- Use knowledge of sorting and processing operations to make decisions that optimize pricing;
- Coordinate with administrative staff and the sales team to ensure accurate and timely documentation of all purchase transactions;
- Provide feedback and recommendations on scrap metal purchase prices for AIM-operated sites;
- Undertake special projects as assigned;
- Coach the team;
- Perform any other related tasks.
Qualifications
- College diploma in commerce, sales, or marketing (or equivalent training or experience);
- 1 year or more of experience (recycling industry, ferrous and non-ferrous metals is an asset);
- Valid Class 5 driver's license;
- Superior customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent mathematical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills;
- Some knowledge of identifying metal alloys is useful, but not mandatory;
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- Ability to travel throughout the territory;
- Good knowledge of different CRMs (an asset);
- Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset for the QC region;
- Leadership skills;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to work in a team;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Ability to establish and manage priorities in a high-pressure work environment;
- Good understanding of organizational management.
