The Opportunity

Cropac Equipment Inc. is looking for an experienced Heavy-Duty Truck Mechanic to join our Laval service team.

This is a hands-on position responsible for diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy trucks, heavy machinery and material-handling equipment. We are looking for a dependable mechanic who understands mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, takes pride in quality workmanship and puts safety first.

What You’ll Do

• Diagnose and repair heavy trucks and equipment, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems and electrical systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections and required repairs.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic and electrical problems.
• Complete service reports, work orders, timecards and maintenance records accurately and on time.
• Maintain tools, specialized equipment and work areas in a clean, organized and safe condition.
• Assist customers and provide technical support when required.
• Support and mentor less-experienced technicians.
• Travel occasionally to customer or job sites for inspections, troubleshooting or emergency repairs.
• Assist with shop and yard organization, including cleaning and preparing equipment for service or delivery.
• Follow all company procedures and applicable health and safety requirements.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience diagnosing, maintaining and repairing heavy trucks or similar equipment.
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working with diesel engines, transmissions and related vehicle systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals, electrical diagrams and hydraulic schematics.
• A Québec certificate of competency or qualification as a heavy road vehicle mechanic is considered an asset.
• A Québec certificate of competency or qualification applicable to heavy road vehicle mechanics, or eligibility to obtain the required certificate or apprentice card, is required where applicable to the work performed. Ontario 310T certification, a Red Seal endorsement as a Truck and Transport Mechanic, or another equivalent Canadian provincial qualification will also be considered.
• Experience working with cranes or material-handling equipment is a strong asset.
• Ability to communicate effectively in French with customers, coworkers and supervisors.
• Strong organization, reliability and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a service team.
• A valid Québec Class 5 driver’s licence and a driving record satisfactory to the Company are required. A Class 1 or Class 3 licence with the appropriate endorsements is considered an asset and is required when operating or road-testing vehicles that require that licence class.
• The ability to communicate effectively in both French and English is required. English proficiency is necessary to communicate with colleagues, suppliers and customers outside of Québec as well as to consult certain technical manuals and manufacturer documents that are not available in French. Cropac has evaluated the language requirements associated with this position and determined that this requirement is necessary to perform the job tasks.
