The Hunting and Fishing Department Assistant is a team member who has a passion and experience in fishing and hunting. The role requires working with hunting and fishing customers to determine their needs, help them find items, explain the technical features of the items, and make professional recommendations to help them make informed purchasing decisions.

Responsibilities

• Welcome, assist, and thank customers, in a friendly manner, whether by phone or in person.
• Answer questions about hunting and fishing and provide professional advice on items, technical features, and product usage methods.
• Recommend related items to customers so they leave with everything they need.
• Direct customers to where they can find information about laws, regulations, and safety guidelines regarding fishing and hunting in the area.
• Stay an "expert" on items by continuously training with new items, new trends, and new technologies.
• Ensure that retail sales tasks are performed efficiently (e.g., stocking, labeling, "facing," cleaning, etc.).
• Check empty locations to ensure inventory accuracy.
• Network and maintain relationships with local hunting and fishing suppliers and community organizations.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements/Skills

• Strong knowledge and expertise in fishing (rods, reels, fishing gear, etc.) and hunting (clothing, ammunition, firearms, hunting gear, etc.)
• Possession and Acquisition License (PPA) required
• Knowledge of hunting and fishing regulations
• Strong work ethic
• Friendly and customer-focused
• Ability to find solutions to problems, adapt, and handle difficult situations and make decisions
• Ability to perform physical efforts, including standing/walking for 8 hours while frequently lifting and carrying merchandise, using a ladder, performing twists, turning, and reaching for objects
• High school diploma (asset)
• Customer service experience and/or experience in a Canadian Tire store (asset)
• Experience as a hunting or fishing guide (asset)
