The Research Chair on Smart Contracts, Blockchain and Other Emerging Technologies Surrounding the Practice of Law at Université Laval is proceeding with the acquisition and development of a strategic software solution as part of its research and innovation activities.
The project aims to develop a digital platform integrating blockchain notarization components, a BPMN process engine, and advanced document certification mechanisms for digital notary services.
In this context, the Chair is seeking a senior developer-analyst or developer-analyst capable of assuming a technical leadership role with the vendor, actively participating in the technological validation of deliverables, and developing a deep understanding of the architecture, source code, and integration mechanisms to ensure the solution's transferability and potential internal takeover.
The selected individual will act as the central technical resource for the project and will work closely with researchers, institutional stakeholders, and the vendor responsible for developing the solution.
Main Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chairholder and the Technology Program Manager, the successful candidate will be involved in both technical coordination, deliverable validation, technical oversight, and knowledge transfer activities.
Project Management and Coordination
- Ensure daily operational and technical project tracking with the vendor;
- Manage the vendor relationship and track contractual and technical obligations;
- Participate in work meetings, technical workshops, demonstrations, and steering committees;
- Track project milestones, dependencies, and technical risks;
- Produce technical reports, tracking tables, and progress reports;
- Identify, document, and communicate technical risks, architectural issues, or quality gaps;
- Collaborate with various stakeholders in an agile and iterative development context;
- Participate in the planning of tests, validations, and demonstrations planned within the project.
Technical Supervision and Deliverable Control
- Participate in the validation of architecture choices and technological orientations proposed by the vendor;
- Ensure a concrete understanding of the developed components, integration mechanisms, and delivered code structure;
- Conduct technical reviews and participate in code reviews;
- Validate the quality, maintainability, consistency, and security of software deliverables;
- Verify the compliance of development and deployment environments provided;
- Execute, test, and validate locally the software deliverables in containerized environments;
- Track Git repositories, branches, versioning mechanisms, and CI/CD pipelines;
- Participate in the validation of application security mechanisms, access management, and API communications;
- Coordinate the tracking of anomalies, defects, and corrective requests with the vendor;
- Ensure that the produced technical documentation is complete, usable, and up-to-date.
Functional Validation and Technological Integrations
- Participate in the validation of developed functionalities according to project requirements;
- Verify the compliance of integrations with the blockchain notarization and provided APIs;
- Evaluate document certification, anchoring, and authenticity verification mechanisms;
- Participate in the validation of workflows and BPMN mechanisms related to notarial processes;
- Validate transaction logging, traceability, and security mechanisms;
- Collaborate with users and stakeholders in functional validation activities.
Appropriation and Transfer
- Gradually develop a deep understanding of the system to ensure internal technical autonomy;
- Reduce vendor dependency by gradually taking over technological components;
- Structure and organize elements necessary for potential internal development takeover;
- Participate in knowledge transfer activities regarding source code, architecture, environments, and integration mechanisms;
- Ensure the conservation and organization of technical documentation, scripts, configurations, and procedures;
- Contribute to the establishment of good software engineering and technical documentation management practices.

- Experience with Docker and containerized environments;
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and deployment pipelines;
- Understanding of application security concepts and access management;
- Ability to install, run, and test a solution in a local environment;
- General knowledge of automated testing and software validation practices.
Assets
- Knowledge of blockchain technologies;
- Knowledge of BPMN engines or process management platforms;
- Experience with the Django framework and React ecosystem;
- Knowledge of Hyperledger Fabric;
- Experience in projects involving document certification or traceability mechanisms;
- Agile, Scrum, PMP, or equivalent certification;
- Experience in academic, research, or technological innovation context.

To ensure effective technical leadership, the successful candidate will need to make frequent trips to the vendor, located in Montreal.
