Chief Data Officer and Governance
TechnologyDescription
As Chief Data Officer and Governance, you will work in direct partnership with the various business units of our headquarters and be the guarantor of the optimal modeling and urbanization of our data flows. A true link between the technical infrastructure and the business vision of the executive leadership, you will lead the team responsible for optimizing daily data operations and transforming our data ecosystem into a highly governed, scalable, and AI-ready asset.
A key role within our "Data Office", your expertise will be sought to elevate governance standards and enforce best practices across the entire organization. If you are a seasoned data executive who excels in mastering the lifecycle of SaaS data (including CRM, ERP, billing engines, and semantic consumption layers), this is the perfect opportunity to transform our operational model, drive our growth, and make a real difference.
Team Leadership and Strategic Partnership
- Team Management and Culture: Proven experience in personnel management, with a particular emphasis on professional growth, mentoring, and daily support. You know how to foster a culture of performance and precision rooted in teamwork, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Data Pods Leadership: Experience in leading a cross-functional team of data analysts distributed into agile sub-teams (*Pods*), assuming responsibility for delivered results. You will ensure your team works closely with our business partners to build data models, manage pipelines, and produce analyses guiding the optimization of our performance and expected operational efficiency gains from our cross-functional areas (Sales, Marketing, Finance, Purchasing, Legal, Human Resources, and Operations).
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate closely with members of the executive leadership (C-suite and vice-presidents) to develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise data strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Roadmap Definition and Execution: Oversee the development of data roadmaps for your *Pods*, ensuring compatibility with the company's financial ERP, planning tools, and billing engines, integrating into the broader effort of the "Data Office".
Data Architecture and Master Data Management (MDM)
- Data Flow Architecture: Acquire and maintain a deep understanding of data flows between our products, systems, and underlying data structures to ensure operational mapping and a logical, efficient, and maintainable structure.
- MDM Design: Design, promote, and execute a comprehensive Master Data Management (MDM) strategy to establish a reliable "single source of truth" across key operational systems, Lightspeed products, and central financial infrastructure.
- Exploratory Modeling: Leverage a deep understanding of systems to design exploratory data models consolidating various data sources, providing the structure needed for business reports and intelligent information highlighting.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: As the primary partner for the "Data Solutions" team responsible for our data warehouses, you will feed their roadmap in conjunction with the necessary model evolutions for different "Pods", ensuring assets that are both scalable and robust, meeting the requirements of enterprise architecture and governance.
Data Governance, Compliance, and Quality Management
- Operational Governance Framework: Collaborate with company stakeholders to establish, promote, and implement strict policies, standards, and procedures for data governance.
- Data Integrity: Enforce data quality standards and ensure data integrity across Lightspeed by fostering accountability, investigating discrepancies at the source, documenting results, and encouraging continuous improvement.
- Regulatory Compliance: Mitigate company risks by ensuring global compliance of our entire data footprint with regulations.
Advanced Analytics and Generative AI
- Best Practices: Ensure the development and adoption of the most rigorous analytics standards within the "Data Office" and across the organization.
- Advanced Exploration: Guide the analysis, exploration, and processing of large volumes of data to extract directly applicable insights, using descriptive, exploratory, inferential, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.
- Consumption Model Modernization: Support your team in creating deliverables that go beyond static dashboards to dynamic and semantic models, as well as data exploitation via AI (GenAI tools, predictive modeling, and automated alerts).
- Cross-Functional Synergy: Collaborate with analytical engineers, expert analysts, and business partners to understand complex requirements and help create ergonomic and efficient solutions.
Required Experience
- High-Level Experience: Over 15 years of experience dedicated to data operations, management (MDM), or architecture, including at least 7 years in an executive leadership or chief-level role.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong technical skills, including a strong familiarity with Cloud architectures - ideally Google Cloud Platform/GCP, BigQuery, and Looker - as well as fundamental SQL skills. Experience with transformation and modeling tools like Dataform is a plus.
- Management Systems Knowledge: Practical experience with ERP data models and planning tools (NetSuite, Oracle, Pigment, etc.), order management systems (OMS), CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot), and billing and subscription management infrastructures.
- SaaS Model Knowledge: Sharp business sense and excellent understanding of the SaaS business model, multi-tenant architectures, and key performance indicators (MRR, LTV, CAC, NRR).
- Language Skills: Exceptional communication skills in English (written and oral) to articulate complex perspectives with clarity and impact, combined with excellent relational skills to collaborate effectively with global teams. Professional fluency in French is highly appreciated, but not mandatory.
- Execution and Professional Attitude: Excellent organizational and project management skills, a strong sense of initiative, and proven ability to manage multiple priorities autonomously in a dynamic environment. You possess a keen instinct for identifying high-value initiatives aligned with business priorities, as well as a natural ease in saying no, negotiating project scope with partners, and proposing strategic compromises.
