Generally, here are the tasks you can expect to perform:

• Receive specimens and verify compliance according to established procedures,
• Record analysis requests (internal and external) and prioritize urgent analysis requests,
• Perform pre-analytical specimen processing when required,
• Perform analyses according to established procedures,
• Perform required quality controls and record results in appropriate registers,
• Perform necessary calculations for the expression of analysis results, if required,
• Issue, validate, and transmit analytical results while ensuring their accuracy and reliability in a quality control perspective,
• Prepare various reagents required for work,
• Receive and qualify, when required, the material and reagents necessary for analyses,
• Identify the need for reagents and materials and prepare purchase requisitions, if required,
• Participate in the maintenance of the quality management system and in the continuous improvement of the SBM,
• Participate in the evaluation of new analytical methods or in the modification of existing methods,
• Respond to customer information requests,
• Produce analytical activity or surveillance reports when requested,
• Assist the pathologist in the execution of medical and medico-legal autopsies (for the pathology sector).

The Person May Be Called Upon to Perform on the Human Body Specimens and Any Activity Reserved as Stipulated in the Law Amending the Code of Professions and Other Legislative Dispositions in the Health Domain (L.Q., 2002, C.33):

• Welcome and explain the different exams to each person who presents at the sampling center,
• Apply the customer identification procedure in force,
• Verify the compliance of the user's preparation with respect to the analyses prescribed by the physician,
• Verify the medical prescription according to the analyses recorded at reception and make corrections if necessary,
• Perform the required sampling techniques for the customer,
• Perform sweat tests, if applicable to the facility,
• Perform cytological and mycological sampling according to established standards, if applicable to the facility.

Requirements

• Hold a college diploma (DEC) in biomedical analysis technology from a recognized school by the competent ministry,
• Be a member in good standing of the Professional Order of Medical Technologists of Quebec.
