The Financial Analyst reports directly to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for managing corporate fixed assets and the creation of assets, tracking capital expenditures, preparing transactions, preparing service notes on various topics related to the finance department, as well as providing advice and recommendations and preparing account reconciliations.

What you will do

  • Execute the fixed asset management process in accordance with IFRS standards and Superior's internal capitalization policies. Activities include maintaining the fixed asset subsidiary ledger, validating fixed asset movements, and analyzing and reporting on discrepancies.
  • Review and code fixed asset invoices to be processed by the accounts payable team, ensuring they comply with IFRS standards and Superior's policies.
  • Manage and monitor capital purchase orders to ensure they comply with capitalization policies. Collaborate interfunctionally with regional fixed asset teams to advise on capitalization criteria and provide recommendations for proper accounting treatment in case of inconsistencies.
  • Ensure the creation, disposal, and transfer of all fixed assets in the financial accounting system, as well as cost adjustments.
  • Perform monthly investment purchase order accounting. Review, analyze, and evaluate whether the purchase order can be capitalized using accounting knowledge and judgment. Communicate with regional teams about open purchase orders and work closely with them to close these orders and ensure that the teams have executed the relevant updates in the system to allow for capitalization.
  • Record purchase order items in accordance with the purchase order or invoice, after validating the receipt of goods with the regional fixed asset team.
  • Reconcile fixed assets in work-in-progress accounts and collaborate with project managers to determine the time of capitalization, ensuring the necessary approvals are obtained.
  • Exercise judgment to identify temporal discrepancies in asset creation across different systems, analyze the discrepancies, and propose solutions to the regional fixed asset team.
  • Conduct detailed analyses as part of the system reconciliation to verify that fixed assets have been correctly recorded and accounted for in each system. Present the monthly conclusions and progress of the reconciliation to the financial leadership team.
  • Be responsible for fixed asset tests as part of the annual financial statement audit.
  • Assist the finance team in providing additional documentation and support the analysis of the existence of reserves.
  • Prepare and process timely monthly journal entries, including reclassifications of operating expenses to capital expenditures, and vice versa, and exercise judgment in determining if the reclassifications are valid.
  • Prepare monthly amortization entries, including analyzing month-to-month amortization, commenting on significant fluctuations, and evaluating if the trend corresponds to forecasts. Investigate any elements that deviate from expected results and provide a solution.
  • Prepare and analyze the account reconciliation, including changes in balances and the nature of activities, and provide recommendations on how to improve the process.
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset and lease continuity reports and perform detailed reconciliations between the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers to communicate information to our parent company.
  • Manage the fixed asset creation workflow and assign the financial administrator to perform the tasks that are due.
  • Actively participate in special projects, being fully responsible for producing results on time.
  • Perform other tasks, if necessary.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Professional accounting title (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) or final steps towards obtaining the title
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in accounting and finance, as well as knowledge of fixed assets
  • Great attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and completeness of large sets of data
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Good collaboration and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivated individual who can handle multiple tasks and manage competing priorities while meeting tight deadlines that may change
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Proven judgment and decision-making skills
  • Experience working with Workday, ADD, and FSM preferred

Annual Salary: From $69,300 to $80,000 (based on skills, experience, qualifications, and geography)
