Assistant Controller: Television, Film and New Media Production

Gestion RL is a dedicated organization offering a full-service solution in the Quebec television, film, and new media production industry. We support our client producers at every stage of production to ensure the smooth running of their projects.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Assistant Controller will play a key role within the organization's accounting department and its projects. He or she will be responsible for the entire accounting cycle, with project-based accounting. This position requires frequent interactions with the internal team, as well as with the company's suppliers and clients.

Main Functions and Responsibilities ● Supervise all accounting operations of the company and its various client companies.

● Ensure the quality and accuracy of monthly and annual financial statements.

● Supervise monthly and annual closings and reconciliation entries.

● Review bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account analyses.

● Supervise payroll processing (personnel subject to and not subject to collective agreements).

● Participate in financial planning and preparation of budgets and cash flow forecasts.

● Analyze production costs and budgetary variances with production directors and producers.

● Monitor liquidity and recommend strategies for sound financial management.

● Supervise the preparation of provincial and federal tax credit claims and various financing programs.

● Coordinate external, government, and year-end audits.

● Prepare and review government declarations (GST, QST, DAS, T4, T4A, Form 1 and other tax obligations).

● Participate in the development and improvement of internal controls and financial processes.

● Support management in financial analyses, performance indicators, and strategic decision-making.

● Mentor, support, and develop accounting team members.

● Participate in the implementation and optimization of accounting and financial tools.

● Perform any other tasks related to the function.

Other Responsibilities ● Act as a financial resource for producers and employees for all financial questions.

● Develop and maintain trust with clients.

● Advise clients on best accounting and financial practices in the audiovisual sector.

● Structure and optimize financial processes in the firm with a continuous improvement perspective.

● Participate in meetings with producers and financial partners when required.

● Collaborate closely with various departments to ensure the financial success of productions.

Requirements

● Bachelor's degree in accounting, administration, or a related field.

● CPA designation (an asset) ● Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in accounting or financial control.

● Experience in an accounting firm or in the audiovisual production field (a significant asset).

● Good knowledge of tax credits related to television, film, or digital media production (an asset).

● Knowledge of industry accounting software, including Génie Comptable and QuickBooks (an asset).

● Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite.

● Excellent proficiency in French, both oral and written.

● Functional English knowledge (an asset).
