Our Mechanical – Hydroelectricity and Dams team is growing across Quebec. This opportunity will allow you to directly contribute to major design, modernization, and rehabilitation projects of essential auxiliary mechanical systems for the safe and efficient operation of hydroelectric power plants.

Based in one of our offices in Quebec, you will act as a mechanical auxiliary plant engineer for hydroelectric projects. You will participate in the design, analysis, evaluation, rehabilitation, and optimization of auxiliary mechanical systems such as service water, drainage, dewatering, compressed air, ventilation, cooling, pumping, industrial piping networks, and various plant mechanical equipment.

Within multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to the development of reliable, safe, and client-need-adapted technical solutions. Your expertise will support the performance, maintainability, and longevity of hydroelectric infrastructure while promoting the effective integration of auxiliary mechanical systems with other disciplines.

Your Impact

• Participate in the design and rehabilitation of hydroelectric power plant auxiliary mechanical systems;
• Conduct studies, analyses, calculations, and technical evaluations related to piping networks, pumping, compressed air, service water, drainage, dewatering, ventilation, and cooling;
• Define design criteria, calculation bases, and technical requirements applicable to auxiliary mechanical systems;
• Prepare, coordinate, and verify drawings, estimates, technical reports, equipment lists, quantity take-offs, and request for proposal documents;
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the integration of mechanical systems with electrical, civil, structural, control, and architectural disciplines;
• Participate in the selection, sizing, and specification of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, valves, tanks, fans, and piping accessories;
• Conduct site visits, surveys, inspections, and technical validations in the plant;
• Analyze technical issues encountered in design, construction, or operation and propose adapted solutions;
• Ensure the technical quality of deliverables and their compliance with contractual requirements, standards, codes, and industry best practices;
• Contribute to the preparation of cost estimates, technical schedules, and techno-economic analyses;
• Participate in technical meetings with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders;
• Support surveillance, commissioning, and deficiency resolution activities when required;
• Mentor and support, depending on experience, CPIs, technicians, and designers in the realization of mechanical deliverables;
• Participate in the improvement of methods, tools, and technical standards in the group for auxiliary plant mechanics;
• Perform any other tasks contributing to project success and the reputation of WSP's expertise.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent;
• Engineer with relevant experience in industrial mechanics, building mechanics, or auxiliary mechanics applied to hydroelectric power plants;
• Experience in the design, analysis, or rehabilitation of auxiliary mechanical systems such as piping networks, pumping, drainage, dewatering, compressed air, ventilation, cooling, or service water;
• Hold a license from the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, or be admissible to obtain one;
• Knowledge of standards, codes, and best practices applicable to industrial mechanical systems and hydroelectric power plants;
• Engineering consulting experience considered an asset;
• Initiative, proactivity, autonomy, and attention to detail;
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams;
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
• Technical coordination, problem-solving, and priority management skills;
• Experience on Hydro-Québec projects considered an asset;
• Bilingual French/English considered an asset.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $89,800 – $118,900
• MB & ON: $81,900 – $112,800
• NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $81,100 – $107,700
