Reporting to the Director – Airport Strategy and Development, the person in this role is responsible for developing a unique and integrated capacity planning and modeling capability to support decisions related to infrastructure, space, and turnaround capacity. They translate network growth and operational requirements into demand and capacity scenario reports to illuminate airport master planning, investment prioritization, long-term infrastructure decisions, and airport authority negotiations. They provide a coherent and data-driven view of infrastructure needs, facilitating the early identification of capacity risks, sequencing constraints, and investment trade-offs, fostering proactive collaboration with airport authorities, and strengthening decision-making and governance.

Responsibilities

The person in this role is responsible for providing essential modeling data to support the overall planning and phased implementation of infrastructure, both for turnaround and other airports in the network. This involves managing a comprehensive database that records airport processing capacity, their infrastructure, and a wide range of operational and space requirements.

Capacity Planning and Forecasting

• Translate operational schedules, passenger data, and process changes into prospective forecasts regarding airport capacity and space demand.
• Participate in the planning and optimization of Air Canada’s facilities, relying on other databases and information, as well as space demand modeling and analysis, to assess their current and future utilization, and proactively determine capacity constraints, underutilization opportunities, and spatial optimization levers across the entire portfolio.
• Develop scenario models – including growth, consolidation, automation, and process evolution – to assess their feasibility and inform executive decisions.
• Define space layout standards and programming logic to ensure consistency and optimal adaptation of dimensions across all airport areas.
• Decision Support and Executive Engagement
• Provide decision options to support governance at the highest level and airport negotiations.
• Provide dashboards and reports ready for presentation to the executive team to facilitate the definition of priorities and investment decisions.
• Modeling, Analysis, and Evaluation
• Develop and maintain passenger handling and gate simulation models.
• Perform a variety of tasks, including data collection and analysis, as well as the design of models, methods, and simulations.
• Conduct comprehensive and rigorous quantitative analyses.
• Evaluate the consequences of current and future process improvements at airports and assess how they contribute to Air Canada’s growth strategy or hinder it.
• Strategic Advice and Stakeholder Mobilization
• Provide guidance and advice regarding the network planning strategy and long-term plan.
• Provide detailed analysis to develop global strategies for the airport, aligning business, customer service, and financial objectives.
• Interact with government agencies to understand changes and new processes to integrate them into simulation models.
• Project Participation and Process Analysis
• Participate in airport and terminal redevelopment project working groups, with a clear understanding of their impact on Air Canada’s business and operations.
• When appropriate, conduct airport process analyses from internal and external data sources and formulate recommendations based on the findings.
• Conduct in-depth consultations with internal stakeholders.
• Continuous Learning and Sector Engagement
• Stay up-to-date with the latest technical developments in simulation and management science, as well as new applications, in the business world and the civil aviation sector.
• Participate in relevant forums to discuss and understand trends in simulation and data analysis, with the goal of integrating this knowledge into Air Canada’s future analysis strategies.

Qualifications

• University degree (master’s degree, an asset) in mathematics, statistics, engineering, economics, or a related discipline.
• At least three years of relevant experience in commercial analysis or data analysis.
• Strong experience in airport operations and planning (terminal and ramp side).
• Experience with simulation software (CAST, Simio, or similar software).
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite products and strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Access, SQL programming, and other data tools.
• Experience in the airline, airport, transportation, or infrastructure sector in general.
• Certifications in program management, an asset.
• Knowledge of airport lease management, space protection, and property rights control.
• Proven punctuality and reliability to foster the overall success of the team in a fast-paced environment.
• Employment Conditions:
