Assistant Gravedigger Operator

Description

Under the supervision of the cemetery supervisor, the assistant gravedigger operator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the cemetery by performing the required tasks in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner with the organization's procedures. The primary objective is to serve as a support to replace the absence of the gravedigger operator and ensure quality control in operations related to digging and burying ashes and coffins. The responsibilities include:

• Operate various types of machinery (tractors equipped with maintenance equipment and, occasionally, a mechanical shovel (Kubota));
• Adhere to established procedures for burials;
• Responsible for the installation of bases and bronze and granite memorial plaques, and work in collaboration with those responsible for their completion;
• Learn the gravedigger operator task in detail and be qualified for this task in its entirety to ensure replacement when needed;
• Act as an assistant during crypt installations and burials and be responsible in the absence of the gravedigger operator;
• Maintain machinery;
• Perform various general maintenance tasks;
• Replace the gravedigger when absent;
• Perform cremations as needed, according to operational requirements;
• Clear snow from the cemetery on weekends according to the schedule;
• Ensure administrative follow-ups via computer platforms;
• Other related tasks.

• Replacement position;
• Work location: Attached to Urgel Bourgie cemeteries (Rive-Sud). May have to work in other sectors according to operational needs;

• PM to 4:30 PM (30 minutes unpaid for meals as per the collective agreement);
• Possibility of overtime on weekdays and weekends according to operational needs;
• The hourly rate is $27.01/h
• When qualified and scheduled by the management to replace an absent gravedigger operator, the assistant will have the salary of the gravedigger operator.

Requirements

• Hold a valid automobile driver's license (Class 5);
• Have a minimum of basic knowledge in mechanical maintenance and repairs;
• Excellent physical condition.

Qualifications

• Specific experience in mechanical shovel operation (an asset), but not necessary to apply for the assistant gravedigger operator position;
• Demonstrate a good sense of initiative, resourcefulness, and versatility;
• Capable of working without supervision and in front of the public (families).
