Pharmacy Technician Assistant

Summary

Assist in the technical aspect of prescription execution, assist as needed with pharmaceutical services, participate in the maintenance and operation of the pharmacy according to pharmacy practice standards, and provide superior, timely, and pleasant customer service.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Customer Service:

• Greet the customer quickly and collect prescription information according to standards.
• Perform your tasks in priority according to the role assignment chart.
• Consult the pharmacist for all clinical questions.
• Set realistic expectations regarding customer wait times.
• Find and charge prescriptions and related items.
• Ensure that customers who need advice are directed to the pharmacist.
• Keep the pharmacy cash register up to date and controlled.
• Respect all confidentiality and privacy requirements.

Administration

• Receive new prescriptions and renewals according to standardized operating procedures.
• Prepare and submit orders, except for controlled and narcotic drugs.
• Check online third-party payer billing and manually manage third-party payer accounts.
• Answer the phone and consult a pharmacist as needed.
• Manage received faxes according to pharmacy practice standards.
• Assist the pharmacist in coordinating reminders.
• File completed documents accurately according to pharmacy practice standards.

Prescription-Related Operational Procedures

• Participate in prescription preparation according to company standards and professional services.
• Enter data for new prescriptions and manage renewal request processing.
• Select medications to execute prescriptions according to pharmacy practice standards.
• Count or measure medications, package, and label prescriptions efficiently according to pharmacy standards.
• Enter required data accurately and keep it up to date in the relevant pharmacy systems.

Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma.
• Diploma from a recognized pharmacy technician assistant course, preferably.
• Previous pharmacy experience, an asset.
• Effective organizational sense and ability to perform multiple tasks at once.
• Problem-solving skills.
