Nature of Work

The Individual Pedagogical Assistant role involves specific functions of counseling, assistance, animation, and information to students regarding their academic pathway. It also involves counseling faculty and administrative staff regarding teaching programs, student pathway, and academic success.

Some Characteristic Responsibilities

  • The Individual Pedagogical Assistant advises and supports students in arranging their study program and choosing courses. She plans and adjusts atypical academic pathways based on students' profiles, including those with special needs. She informs them of the impact of any changes on the duration of their studies towards graduation.
  • She analyzes students' academic records for admission into a study program. She participates in determining local admission criteria, ensuring compliance with the Regulations Governing the College Studies System (RREC).
  • She provides her opinion on the impact of changes in the course grid and course prerequisites. As needed, she informs faculty and program/department heads about the causes, risks of failures and dropouts related to the program and recommends adjustments.
  • She receives requests for course substitution or equivalence from students, including those from abroad, and analyzes the provided documents, validates with the department/program head, and makes a recommendation.
  • She listens to and supports the student and, if necessary, guides them to the appropriate resources. She evaluates the impact of the situation on the student's session continuation and academic pathway. With the student's consent, she performs the necessary follow-ups.
  • She participates in information meetings where her expertise is required.
  • She develops and designs student welcome activities that she animates.
  • Establishes communication with other interveners involved in the file (pedagogical advisor, support staff, etc.).

Education and Experience

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of specialization, such as education sciences, school and professional orientation and guidance;
  • Relevant work experience in a school and college environment, preferably;
  • Good knowledge of basic computer tools (MS Office suite, Internet);
  • Knowledge of the Clara and Omnivox pedagogical systems, an asset;
  • Proficiency in French, both oral and written.
