E-commerce WordPress / Shopify / PHP Developer

About the Position

Bayard Canada encompasses several editorial and commercial brands. We are evolving our Shopify e-commerce ecosystem, now integrated with our internal ERP, and maintaining a portfolio of Shopify and WordPress sites that are continuously improving. You will join a small, versatile development team, with a central role in e-commerce operations and the maintenance of our Shopify apps.

WordPress and Shopify Development

• Develop and maintain WordPress sites
• Develop and maintain Shopify store themes, with a constant focus on performance and responsiveness.
• Build reusable sections and components to serve multiple brands from a common base.
• Transform UX/UI mockups into smooth, accessible, and design-faithful shopping experiences.
• Consume Shopify API (Storefront and Admin GraphQL) and data from our internal systems to ensure the accuracy of what is displayed (prices, inventory, order statuses).
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the PHP backend API.

Run and Evolution of the Site Portfolio

• Ensure the run of modification requests on our various Shopify stores and WordPress sites.
• Participate in the renewal of our sites: redesign or creation of new stores and sites.
• Keep existing site versions up-to-date
• Take over and document existing undocumented configurations: you know how to investigate a production system, trace the thread, and document what you discover.

Quality, Performance, and Maintenance

• Optimize site performance (Core Web Vitals), browser compatibility, and accessibility.
• Diagnose and fix production issues; propose technical improvements.

Collaboration

• Work daily with development, product, marketing, and design teams, including stakeholders in the United States.
• Document developed features and actively contribute to the technical documentation of the existing system.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, reviews, retrospectives).
• As needed, contribute to Vue.js / Nuxt.js projects on our internal tools.

Desired Profile

• 1 to 2 years of web development experience, including hands-on, demonstrable experience with WordPress/Shopify (custom themes, not just configuration).
• Excellent mastery of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+).
• Good PHP fundamentals: you are able to read, understand, and evolve an existing PHP codebase.
• Experience in API integration, ideally GraphQL.
• Proficiency in Git and comfort with a project management tool (Jira or equivalent).
• Computer science degree or equivalent experience.

Assets

• Experience with e-commerce flows integrated into an ERP (orders, inventory, webhooks).
• Knowledge of the ONIX standard or the publishing ecosystem.
• Vue.js and/or Nuxt.js.

Human Skills

• Autonomy and rigor: you are capable of following processes, even when documentation is missing.
• Clear communication, both written and oral, with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Fluent French. English required, as the technical documentation of the Shopify ecosystem, and most stakeholders related to this position are English-speaking.
• Salary: $50,000 to $70,000 per year
