Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Financial Controller serves as a business partner to operational teams and management. This role is pivotal in managing accounting and financial activities, financial performance analysis, cost control, budget tracking, and continuous process improvement.

In a dynamic manufacturing environment, the position holder directly contributes to strategic decision-making and achieving organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the entire accounting cycle for three entities.
  • Develop operating budgets and cost of goods sold (COGS) in collaboration with operations teams.
  • Produce, analyze, and present financial statements, annual budgets, and various financial reports.
  • Perform monthly analysis of variances between actual and budgeted results, as well as annual comparisons.
  • Develop analytical and tracking tools for better understanding of financial results and trends.
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement projects by providing necessary financial analyses for decision-making.
  • Perform cost calculations and tracking in partnership with operations teams.
  • Serve as a financial leader on the product development committee.
  • Support operations with inventory controls and application of best practices across various warehouses.
  • Analyze the profitability of existing and new products in development.
  • Conduct annual inventory revaluations.
  • Plan and prepare the annual external audit file.
  • Participate in the development and tracking of financial and operational performance indicators.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure the efficiency of financial operations.
  • Supervise a team of five administrative employees responsible for billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, distribution, and receiving.
  • Ensure compliance with best accounting practices and promote continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular visits to the plant to gain a thorough understanding of operations and their financial impacts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation (a significant asset).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in accounting and finance.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in management or team supervision.
  • Significant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of cost accounting and cost analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to communicate financial information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changes.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams such as sales, marketing, human resources, and operations.
  • Motivational leadership and excellent communication skills.
