The Litigation Affairs Department represents municipalities or other municipal organizations insured under the Municipal Insurance Policy, from the initiation of lawsuits to the final judgment or settlement that ends the disputes. The Department supports organizations to ensure full defense and protect their rights, advising on the best strategy for managing and resolving their covered disputes.
We are seeking a lawyer to join an engaged team that meets the needs of municipalities and regions, contributes to the organization's goals, and ensures that tomorrow's Quebec is the Quebec of all regions.
This position requires a minimum of two (2) days per week in the office. The remaining days can be done remotely. Please note that occasional travel may be required as part of the duties.
YOUR DAILY ROUTINE AT FQM
Under the responsibility of the Director of Litigation Affairs, your primary mandate will be to handle defense cases for the Quebec Municipal Insurance Fund. You will be called upon to advise and provide opinions on appeals filed against municipalities or their employees, and to represent them in court.
THE ROLE YOU WILL PLAY
- Analyze appeals and provide opinions;
- Conduct legislative, doctrinal, and case law research and draft judicial procedures;
- Develop defense strategies;
- Participate in amicable settlement conferences or dispute resolution proceedings;
- Represent municipalities or their employees in court;
- Ensure the smooth running of cases entrusted by the Fund;
- Maintain a watch on legislation and jurisprudential evolution in the fields of insurance and municipal law;
- Contribute to the smooth running of cases entrusted by the Fund;
- Share your knowledge within the team to contribute to everyone's development.

THE PROFILE WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Hold a bachelor's degree in law;
- Be a member of the Barreau du Québec;
- Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position;
- Have practical experience in litigation (in insurance or municipal law, is an asset);
- Demonstrate excellent mastery of the French language, both written and oral;
- Collaborative spirit and ability to build trust;
- Excellent analytical, judgmental, and synthesis skills;
- Meticulousness, organization, and concern for the quality of work;
- Demonstrate initiative, judgment, and strong professional autonomy;
- Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and work under pressure.
Any combination of education and professional experience, and any other relevant experience, will be considered.
