The Role

You assemble, maintain, and repair bikes in accordance with MEC's guidelines for productivity, quality, and safety. You advise and train frontline staff on bike repair processes and procedures. You perform all repairs while considering MEC's sustainable development principles. In winter, bike mechanics assist our ski shop, which means they install, adjust, and repair ski bindings and skis. You help members get quality gear, with the cutting-edge advice they need to feel inspired in their activity. You work behind the scenes and on the front lines to organize inventory and provide members with the products they need. You talk about our products with members. You have in-depth knowledge and love to share your personal recommendations. You have an affinity for helping people of all levels to find the right product.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide service to members in accordance with the SERVIR standard, in the workshop or sales area, as needed.
• Ensure the organization, safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of the workspace.
• Bike construction: Assemble bikes according to MEC standards.
• Perform basic repairs, such as wheel truing, internal cable routing, gear adjustment, and pedal and handlebar play selection and installation, in accordance with MEC's quality guidelines and established time standards.
• Install and maintain all parts necessary for a bike to function properly.
• Install and maintain bike accessories, such as fenders, racks, and bottle cages.
• Provide assistance in diagnosing bike operation issues and propose solutions to problems encountered by members.
• Ensure that the final inspection and quality assurance of new and repaired bikes meet or exceed MEC standards.
• Complete necessary documents and perform other administrative tasks in accordance with MEC standards.
• Excellent written communication skills for receiving bikes for mechanical work.
• Procure parts in accordance with MEC standards for work orders.
• Inventory management and data entry.
• Track hours worked in each function of the bike shop.
• Maintain MEC-specified productivity standards.
• Comply with all loss prevention policies and procedures.
• Other tasks assigned as needed by the company.

Qualifications

• At least one year of professional experience as a bike mechanic in a bike shop.
• Availability according to MEC's availability guidelines based on status.
• Demonstrate mastery of parts terminology, maintenance techniques, and part compatibility.
• Demonstrate the ability to build a bike during the hiring process.
• Advanced computer skills in the use of D365 systems.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, reach, push, and pull for long periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders.
• Fine and gross motor skills.
