We are a leading game development studio composed of veterans of the game industry. We are working on a game based on an acclaimed intellectual property set in an enthralling medieval fantasy world. This game is an AAA third-person action-adventure RPG experience, with a rich narrative and strategic gameplay. We are looking for a Video Game Writer who will craft compelling narratives that immerse players in the virtual worlds created by our game developers. You are involved in developing plotlines, characters, backstory, and game lore that engage the players and drive the gameplay forward. Collaborating with game designers, artists, and programmers, you will ensure that a game’s story ties seamlessly with its mechanics and visuals, resulting in a cohesive and immersive experience. As a key player of our team, you will play an important role in enhancing player engagement and strengthen emotional connections to the game, ultimately contributing to a game’s success and appeal.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research to mold the story and the characters accordingly, adding context & meaning to the gameplay experience.
- Collaborate with the rest of the editorial team to create effective and concise content in the correct voice.
- Work closely with other departments to contribute to all narrative aspects of the game
- Write game storylines & the entire accompanying game production content, such as world descriptions and tips, character outlines, casting documents, and other.
- Ensure that all narrative reference documents are up to date and accessible to various teams.
- Participate in audio recordings to give directions to actors and ensure story and characters’ consistency.
- Act as a bridge between the narrative team and other departments to ensure narration is well integrated within all areas of the game and supports the player experience
- Implement and follow implementation of narrative data in the game engine.
- Review the work of other writers, give and receive constructive feedback.
- Document, communicate, process feedback and iterate on narrative concepts
- This is a flexible hybrid role. Being in the office one or two days a week is a plus, but not required.
Knowledge/Skills
- 4+ years of professional writing experience, including published works or shipped games.
- Shipped at least 1 AAA game as a lead or senior writer.
- Experience in all stages of AAA game development.
- Have a vivid imagination and storytelling abilities to craft compelling stories that engage the players.
- Strong understanding of game narrative design and the impact of dialogue and text on player experience.
- Creative storyteller able to develop plotlines, adapt them to context, and contribute to the authenticity of the game.
- Ability to adapt writing to different genres, game mechanics, and formats. This is an essential skill to ensure that the narrative fits the game’s overall structure and style.
- Excellent team spirit and ability to collaborate effectively with different stakeholders, while working autonomously.
- Comfortable with manipulating narrative tools in the game engine.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Be self-motivated, resourceful, and proactive in completing varied tasks.
- Proficiency in English as a mother tongue and comfort working in a bilingual environment.
- An interest and knowledge of medieval fantasy universes is a plus.
- An interest in Korean culture, including films, series, and video games, is a plus.
