Technician Specialist in Structure Inspection

Under the authority of the Director of Planning and Management of Infrastructure and under the immediate supervision of the Coordinator of the Structures and Bridges Module, the incumbent of the position provides technical support in the field of structures. He is responsible for the autonomous realization of the general inspection of level 3 structures as defined in the Structure Inspection Manual and other tasks relevant to the technical representative, and participates in the realization of general inspections of levels 1 and 2. Thus, he ensures up-to-date knowledge of the inventory and condition of structures and participates in the planning of interventions on these structures. Participates in the preparation and follow-up of various mandates, PC-1 checkpoints and takes on complex files.

More specifically, the incumbent of the position will have to:

  • Carry out the inventory of structures:
  • + Follow up and update the inventory of structures;
  • + Make requests to create and update the files of structures;

+ Conduct field surveys of new data to be entered into the system and verify existing data; + Enter data into the Structure Management System.

  • Carry out the general inspection of level 3 structures and act as support to engineers for the general inspection of structures of levels 1 or 2:

+ Plan the inspection: plan the required signage and equipment, prepare forms, drawings, work notices, etc.; + Examine each element of the structure to detect defects; + Evaluate the importance of the detected defects and their impact on behavior; + Determine maintenance activities to be carried out to keep or restore the elements of the structure in good condition.

+ Enter data into the Structure Management System.

  • Carry out annual inspections and observation inspections under the supervision of an engineer:

+ Visually examine the elements of a structure to detect obvious defects that may be the cause of an accident or affect safety; + Describe the general condition and update the required interventions; + Record the information collected on the form provided for this purpose; + Enter data into the Structure Management System.

  • Participate in the establishment of the planning of structure works:

+ Assist the engineer responsible for inspections in preparing the annual five-year planning of works to be carried out on structures; + Determine the projects that should be the subject of works over the next 5 years and establish the priority of interventions; + Send to municipalities and MTMD service centers the lists of activities to be carried out on structures.

  • Train technicians and interns, take on complex files:

+ Contribute to the integration of new technicians and interns (initiation to the mission system, access to different portals and software, etc.); + Participate in the training and information of new technicians and interns; + Collaborate actively with the coordinator to design new work methods and adapt technical procedures.

  • Participate in the preparation and follow-up of various mandates:
  • Participate in the preparation of PC-1 checkpoints.

  • Have at least five years of experience in the exercise of the attributes of the public infrastructure technician class, in this title or in an equivalent title;
