Job Title: NPI Buyer

About Pratt & Whitney Canada

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) is a global leader in the aerospace industry, headquartered in Longueuil, Quebec. We manufacture next-generation engines that power the world's largest fleet of business, general aviation, and regional aircraft and helicopters.

For nearly 100 years, we have pioneered advancements in engine development, supporting cargo and equipment transportation, wildfire fighting, and passenger transport.

An Employer of Choice

For the 11th consecutive year, Pratt & Whitney Canada has been ranked among the best employers in Canada and continues to hold the top spot in the aerospace and defense industry. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation, excellence, and creating a workplace where our employees can thrive and feel fully engaged.

Why Join the Team?

Pratt & Whitney Canada offers a dynamic opportunity where the NPI team will help introduce exciting new products and have a significant impact on the future of our engines. Within the NPI team, we:

  • Play a crucial role in the success of our projects by managing the procurement process and coordinating with our suppliers, maximizing supplier involvement in concurrent engineering.
  • Highlight our negotiation and strategic thinking skills by leading negotiations to conclusion.
  • Play a key role within integrated project teams, responsible for initial procurement and industrialization of assigned components.

The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours based in Longueuil and conducted exclusively in person.

What Will Your Day Look Like?

  • Source Selection: Select suppliers for new components. This includes understanding technical requirements, identifying appropriate suppliers, and launching the procurement process. We participate in evaluating potential suppliers based on factors such as quality, cost, reliability, and ability to meet program requirements.
  • Negotiation and Contract Conclusion: Lead negotiations to closure, ensuring all parties are satisfied with the final agreements. Negotiations include, but are not limited to, product pricing, non-recurring costs, development schedules, repair and revision agreements, tooling, and general conditions.
  • Project Management within Interfunctional Teams: Work closely with internal stakeholders such as project and base engineering, after-sales support, operations program manager, and production supply chain professionals to ensure alignment between different departments and facilitate the smooth execution of new product launches, from concept to delivery. Act as the primary point of contact with the supplier and coordinate program requirements with them, for example: communicate project specifications, schedules, and expectations.
  • Cost Optimization: Identify cost reduction opportunities through value engineering (Design to Cost) or alternative procurement. Work on optimizing manufacturing processes (Design for Manufacturing) to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Product Knowledge: Understand component design functionality, nomenclature, detailed part manufacturing processes, and required quality standards.
  • Supply Assurance of Delivery: Encourage suppliers to promise upcoming development dates and production material deliveries. Obtain work-in-progress and balance reports from suppliers and share progress accurately with internal stakeholders. Industrialization of Products: Engage suppliers for quality and production deliveries with no non-conformities for a potential seamless transition to production supply chain professionals. Ensure suppliers have obtained the necessary capacity, operational processes, and infrastructure for on-time delivery through supplier status evaluations.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

  • Business Sense: Possess a strong understanding of commercial principles, including finance, marketing, and strategy, to analyze cost structures and evaluate market dynamics.
  • Strategic Vision: Capable of developing procurement strategies that optimize supplier relationships, reduce risks, and foster innovation in new product launch processes, in alignment with company objectives.
  • Product Knowledge: Experience collaborating with engineering and production teams for prototyping parts procurement, pilot activities, and new product launch into production.
  • Negotiation Skills: Expert in negotiation techniques and tactics to secure favorable contractual terms, pricing, and supplier agreements, contributing to cost reduction and performance improvement.
  • Data Analysis: Mastery of data analysis and interpretation; ability to evaluate supplier performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize procurement processes and supplier relationships.
  • Leadership Capabilities: Strong leadership qualities including effective communication, team management, decision-making, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and alignment around NPI project objectives.
  • Adaptability and Innovation: Openness to new procurement technologies, methodologies, and practices to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and foster continuous improvement within the organization.
  • International Perspective: Ability to navigate global supply chains, understand cultural differences, and establish strategic partnerships with international suppliers.

This position is within a French-speaking work environment, but requires functional English proficiency to read and understand specialized instructions, plans, drawings, and technical terms that may originate from international organizations, as well as to write and occasionally communicate in English with international clients, suppliers, or colleagues.
