About the Data Platform Team

Our mission is to provide a reliable, secure, and scalable data infrastructure as a service for the entire AppDirect. We consider data infrastructure as a product encompassing database, search, cache, and data lake functions on which engineering teams can rely to develop and deploy with confidence.

The Data Platform team manages over 80 data warehouses across the organization and relies on four fundamental pillars: resilience and capacity, security, operational excellence, performance and scalability. We prioritize self-service access and automation. In addition to driving large-scale database migrations related to company growth and acquisitions, the team collaborates closely with the cloud platform, DevOps, and product engineering teams to ensure that teams have data warehouses tailored to their needs and secure by design.

The data infrastructure is entering the AI era, and we are not left behind: we invest in AI-assisted operations, self-service tools, and data lake modernization, which reduces repetitive tasks, accelerates information access, and helps newly acquired teams quickly and safely integrate into our data platform.

Your Profile

We are looking for a Database Administrator to join our Data Platform team. You are a technical professional, competent, and ambitious, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a data-as-product approach. You are passionate about efficiency, automation (including AI-based approaches), and continuous learning, and you want your work to have a significant impact.

This position is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of highly scalable and fault-tolerant data services and cutting-edge cloud infrastructure. As a Data Reliability Engineer, you will tackle complex technical challenges related to database reliability, migrations, and platform automation, and play a key role in the evolution of our cloud-based data environment. You enjoy guiding engineers to the right data storage for their needs, designing self-healing systems, and sharing documentation and best practices to facilitate your colleagues' work.

What You Will Do and How You Will Shine

• Drive large-scale database migration projects, based on acquisitions, new client onboarding, and platform growth, ensuring minimal service disruptions, robust recovery strategies, and no data loss.
• Design and execute deployment strategies for blue/green migrations, data archiving, and partitioning in relational, key-value, and document databases.
• Use AI-based automation to enhance our data platform, leveraging our four pillars: operational excellence, security and compliance, performance and scalability, resilience and capacity planning.
• Use AI-assisted development tools and specification-based workflows to design, automate, and deploy database platform changes (Terraform modules, operations manuals, diagnostics, and operational tools) with clear acceptance criteria and high code quality.
• Collaborate with the Data Knowledge team to set up a shared data warehouse (e.g., Databricks, Apache Iceberg, Unity Catalog), ensuring the connection between transactional data warehouses and analytical infrastructure through reliable access models, security and governance alignment, and secure workload integration into the shared data warehouse.
• Guide engineers in implementing database solutions tailored to their needs, covering relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server), key-value (Redis), document (MongoDB), and search (Elasticsearch) environments.
• Promote a strong documentation culture by developing and sharing high-quality knowledge resources for engineers and AI-assisted workflows.
• Participate in incident management and on-call rotations to ensure data infrastructure availability.

Required Skills

• Excellent understanding of AI-assisted development, with practical experience using tools designed to improve efficiency, automation, and code quality, e.g., Cursor and Claude.
• 5+ years of practical experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, in large-scale production environments, with deep knowledge of the internal workings of databases.
• 2+ years of practical experience with NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch).
• 2+ years of experience with AWS cloud services.
• Strong expertise in IaC (Infrastructure as Code), particularly Terraform.
• Knowledge of data lake and analytics infrastructures (e.g., Databricks, Apache Iceberg, Unity Catalog) is a plus; interest in collaborating with Data Knowledge teams on setting up these infrastructures.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical topics to colleagues and other stakeholders.
• Experience working in a decentralized team.
