Landmark is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our organization.

Role and Responsibilities

Under the responsibility of the Co-CEO, the Legal Counsel is tasked with providing high-quality legal drafting and advisory services in commercial real estate to support Landmark's activities and operations.

This role, both strategic and operational, primarily involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various legal documents, providing legal advice to internal stakeholders, coordinating the legal aspects of commercial real estate transactions, and collaborating closely with internal teams as well as external legal counsel to ensure effective, compliant, and timely execution.

Key Responsibilities

Documentation and Related Services

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate documentation, including leases, lease amendments, renewals, lease assignments, estoppels, letters of intent, offers to lease, confidentiality agreements, and other related legal documents.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on commercial real estate matters, lease interpretation, contractual issues, and applicable legislation.
  • Prepare corporate resolutions, notices, and other legal documentation required to support business activities.
  • Stay informed about legislative and regulatory developments affecting commercial real estate and advise internal teams accordingly.
  • Provide support to the Transactions, Lease Administration, Market Research and Analysis, and Operations teams.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date legal documentation templates, precedents, and standards to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel on specialized or complex issues as needed.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and provide timely, practical, and business-oriented legal support.
  • Contribute to process improvements and initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the legal function and supporting business objectives.

What We Are Looking For

You are an experienced professional in commercial real estate law, with a strong expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents in commercial real estate. Whether you are a lawyer or have equivalent legal experience in this field, you demonstrate excellent judgment, an exceptional attention to detail, and a pragmatic, business-oriented approach.

You thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment, enjoy working in partnership with internal teams, and are known for providing precise, timely, and solution-oriented legal support. You are able to balance legal risks with business objectives to effectively support business activities.

  • Essential Qualifications
  • Member of the Quebec Bar
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years or more of experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents in commercial real estate, including commercial leases, lease amendments, offers to lease, letters of intent, estoppels, lease assignments, and other related agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial real estate law and ability to provide practical legal advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, analysis, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance legal risks and business objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, service-oriented environment.
  • Bilingual (French and English) essential, with excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The role requires regular interaction with stakeholders across Canada.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in using technology, automation, and artificial intelligence tools to enhance the efficiency and consistency of legal services.
  • Experience within an in-house legal department or supporting commercial real estate transactions is a significant asset.
  • A degree in Common Law is an asset.
