Eaton's Power Reliability division is currently seeking a motivated Hardware Lead Engineer to join its Utility Intelligent Devices Engineering team. This team is a critical internal resource developing products for electrical substations to support digitalization and automation of substations, generating $30M in annual revenue from a varied product line. This position is based at the Lévis office (Quebec) and offers hybrid work opportunities, stimulating technological projects, and benefits from day one.
The expected annual salary range for this position is $93,000 to $117,000.

What You Will Do
As a Senior Electronic Engineer, you will be part of an agile team developing and maintaining high-performance, high-reliability electronic systems for the electrical substation market. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary local and international team composed of engineers, technicians, and other professionals. You will participate in the complete product development cycle (architecture, requirements, component selection, simulations, preliminary and detailed design, qualification plan, engineering and compliance testing, schematic and PCB routing, production transfer) as well as maintenance and revenue support activities (alternative part qualification, redesign, and related activities).
Main Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the architecture, design, and verification of electronic hardware for complex embedded systems (e.g., digital/analog circuits, DC-DC and AC-DC power, high-speed interfaces such as PCIe/USB/Ethernet, microcontrollers/microprocessors and FPGA, PMIC circuits, low-speed interfaces such as SPI/I2C/UART, etc.), from requirements to validation and production.
- Manage the definition and cascading of applicable requirements to detailed design for electronic systems, including engineering trade-offs, support documentation such as design notes and simulations, and other materials.
- Participate in design review activities with the multidisciplinary team for manufacturing, assembly, and testing aspects.
- Ensure product technical constraints for use in electrical substation environments.
- Regularly and sustainably collaborate with software development teams (FW/SW), systems engineering, marketing, test, manufacturing, and quality teams for the introduction of new products into production and support of active products.
- Develop engineering test solutions for preliminary (Python, LabView, etc.) and qualification testing.
- Develop solid, self-contained engineering documentation to verify test validity against applicable requirements and constraints.
- Determine complex electronic systems using standard (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supply, waveform generator) and advanced (electrostatic discharge, fast transients, shock waves, dielectric, etc.) measurement devices.
- Design and implement digital architectures (RESET sequence, high-speed communications, power sequencing) following applicable constraints (timing arrangement, signal integrity).
- Serve as a technical mentor for junior internal resources and multidisciplinary teams.
- Facilitate the implementation of exemplary and standardized engineering practices aligned with Eaton's Leadership Model (ELM).
Required Qualifications
- Active member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec with full practice rights.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, or a similar program from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in complex electronic design with a demonstrated product launch track record.
- Proficiency in English and French (ability to work in both languages). Proficiency in both French and English is essential for this position to communicate with colleagues, clients, and partners located in Quebec or outside the province, as well as to understand technical documents in our industry.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship from the current employer, now and in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to autonomously design, according to the state of the art, systems based on high-speed communication interfaces (including PCIe Gen3, Gbps Ethernet, USB 3.0, SATA, LVDS) and low-speed interfaces (including UART, I2C, SPI, MDIO).
- Skilled in diagnosing complex electronic problems using standard and advanced measurement tools (including boot sequences, power trees, mixed-signal circuits, isolated interfaces, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience and autonomy in computer-aided electronic design (Altium Designer, LTspice, Pspice, etc.).
- Good awareness of product development tools focused on quality (DFSS, design for six sigma).
- Familiar with the constraints and subtleties applicable for the introduction of an electronic product into mass production, including functional, compliance, and individual tests (board-level test, ICT).
Skills
- Strong technical analysis capabilities and advanced skills in diagnosing and solving complex problems.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate problems and solution paths at different hierarchical levels.
- Strong strategic planning and work prioritization skills in an agile/scrum environment.

What You’ll Do
As a Hardware Engineer, you will be part of an agile team who develop and sustain intelligent embedded electronic devices for high performance, high reliability, and real-time automation for electrical substations and utilities. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team composed of engineers and technicians (firmware, software, hardware, test, manufacturing, QA), distributed around the world. You will participate in the complete product development lifecycle (architecture definition, component selection, system and sub-system level requirements definition, simulations, design, test plan definition, schematic entry, PCB layout) and execution to production release. You will also engage actively in product maintenance and sustainment (alternate / second source part qualification, product re-design, and other similar / relevant sustaining activities).
Essential Responsibilities
- Own end to end electronic hardware architecture, design, and verification for embedded products (examples are digital/analog, power, high speed interfaces such as PCIe / USB / Ethernet, microcontrollers/microprocessors and FPGA, PMICs, low-speed interfaces such as SPI / I2C / UART, etc.), from requirements through validation and production release.
- Lead HW requirements flow down, design tradeoffs justification, derating, simulation/analysis, design reviews and DfX (DFM/DFA/DFT).
- Champion product compliance/readiness for utility environments.
- Collaborate with FW/SW, Systems, Marketing, Test, Manufacturing/Quality, Product and Supply Chain teams to ensure platform reuse, manufacturability, robust V&V plan, and sustaining viability across products lifecycle.
- Develop tests for board bring up and design verification, document test plan, test criteria and conduct tests for circuitry design.
- Proficient with standard (Oscilloscope, multimeter, power supply, waveform generator) and advanced (electrostatic discharge gun, fast transient burst, impulse generator, dielectric test equipment, etc.) measurement tools.
