Financial planning is one of the key services offered to Scotia Wealth Management clients. The Senior Financial Planner, Global Wealth Planning is an expert in their field and is responsible for providing comprehensive and proactive financial planning advice and support to high-net-worth clients.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive financial plans based on the client's objectives, including the following:
  • Gather key relevant data through in-depth client research.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review the client's financial plan and needs summary to ensure it aligns with their specific needs.
  • Present the financial plan and associated strategies to the client.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen the relationship with the client to improve business results.

Act as an expert and advocate for financial planning, one of Scotia Wealth Management's key value propositions:

  • Provide professional financial planning advice regarding complex strategies.
  • Invite and encourage advisors and Business Relationship Managers (BRMs) to integrate financial planning into their operational model.
  • Promote the value, benefits, and results of financial planning to both advisors, BRMs, and clients.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (taxation, insurance, estate and trust, philanthropy, etc.) to ensure an integrated and structured approach to financial planning.
  • Provide guidance and assistance with the use of local software.
  • Prepare and facilitate workshops and seminars for clients and staff on current financial planning topics.

Build relationships

  • Establish professional relationships with local external specialists (such as chartered accountants, lawyers, or other qualified professionals) to provide optimal service in complex planning cases.
  • Build relationships with advisors, BRMs, and other internal specialists to foster teamwork.

Observe standard financial planning professional practices and adhere to the internal service level agreement:

  • Stay up-to-date on all current financial planning topics.
  • Adhere to standard procedures, best practices, and professional codes of conduct regarding clients.
  • Meet or exceed service level agreement expectations.
  • Participate in the smooth functioning of the Financial Planning team:
  • Actively participate in team learning and development activities and contribute to team performance.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members and various resource persons from different business sectors and functions.
  • Provide quality service to the client at all times.
  • Foster an open and honest communication culture.
  • Actively participate in individual performance reviews and team meetings.
  • Encourage the expression of new ideas or approaches.
  • Actively share knowledge and experience to compete in the improvement of all team members.
  • Design and implement a relevant employee development plan.

Functional skills

  • Have in-depth technical and practical knowledge of the financial planning process: investments, asset protection, retirement, estate planning, cash management, tax issues, etc.
  • Possess skills in explaining complex financial concepts.
  • Be equipped with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly build trust relationships.
  • Have practical knowledge of wealth management activities, including the value proposition, different products and services offered to high-net-worth clients, and how they are offered.
  • Be able to work both autonomously and proactively as well as within a team of experts to target opportunities while providing exceptional client service. This also includes the ability to call upon an expert at the right time and in the right way to optimize the service offered to the client and the opportunities of the Wealth Management team.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of financial planning by software (Naviplan).
  • Be able to travel within a given region to meet clients in order to achieve objectives quickly.
  • Have knowledge of insurance products and solutions.

Required

  • University degree
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation (applicable only in Quebec)
  • At least 5 years of experience as a financial planner for high-net-worth clients

Assets

  • Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) title
  • Personal Insurance Certificate
  • Professional designation (CA, CMA, CGA, LLB)
  • Canadian Securities Course
  • Additional courses on succession or taxation

In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient English proficiency, as the job involves regularly interacting and collaborating with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other individuals, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
