Your area of expertise:
An automotive service technician is a professional who diagnoses, repairs, and maintains vehicles, ensuring their proper functioning. They work with a variety of systems in cars, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, etc., using specialized tools and technology to identify issues. These technicians typically perform routine maintenance such as oil changes and tire rotations, as well as more complex repairs. They must stay up-to-date with the latest automotive technologies and repair methods to effectively address new challenges in vehicle performance and safety. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this field.
What excites you day-to-day?
- Perform vehicle repair and/or maintenance work as indicated on the RO with efficiency and accuracy, completing all tasks according to dealership and original equipment manufacturer standards.
- Communicate regularly with parts and service advisors to effectively manage production/repairs, cycle times, and customer communication.
- Perform multi-point inspections to formulate appropriate repair recommendations while ensuring the safety and reliability of all repaired vehicles before returning them to the customer.
- Document all work performed on the vehicle RO by creating a history in the associated repair order, in a manner compliant with OEM standards, ensuring that warranty work payments are provided by the manufacturer.
- Maintain an inventory of common automotive technician tools that are not normally inventoried by the service department as "shop-supplied" equipment.
- Stay up-to-date with factory technical bulletins and participate in factory-sponsored training courses as needed.
- Provide an exceptional repair experience to retain customers and increase department revenue.
What are the must-haves?
- Solid knowledge of various makes and models.
- A recognized provincial automotive mechanic certification, completed or in progress.
- A CPA (Committee for the Automotive Services Industry) card.
- The Red Seal certification would be considered an asset.
- Completion of a relevant post-secondary program and/or training courses.
- Professional attitude and strong work ethics.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to use electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work individually and in a team.
- High level of integrity and work ethics.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and safe driving records.
