OVERVIEW
We have launched an innovative line of Martha Stewart food products in Canada and the U.S., along with a growing portfolio of consumer products, including pizza ovens and other branded and proprietary product lines. We are seeking a motivated, organized, detail-oriented and analytical Buyer to join our team.
The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting a wide range of purchasing, product sourcing and supplier coordination activities, including sourcing new products and suppliers, requesting and comparing quotations, preparing purchase orders, coordinating product samples and specifications, monitoring delivery timelines, maintaining supplier and product information, and supporting inventory and replenishment planning.
This role focuses on supporting the company’s growing portfolio of consumer products while working closely with management, sales, operations, suppliers, manufacturers and logistics partners. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping ensure that products are sourced at competitive costs, meet required specifications and are delivered according to agreed timelines.
Purchasing \& Procurement
- Work with management, sales and operations to support purchasing, product sourcing and supplier coordination activities.
- Request, review and compare supplier quotations, pricing sheets, product specifications and commercial terms.
- Prepare, issue and follow up on purchase orders, supplier confirmations and delivery schedules.
- Assist with evaluating pricing, minimum order quantities, lead times, payment terms and other supplier conditions.
- Maintain accurate and organized purchasing records and documentation.
Product \& Supplier Sourcing
- Assist in sourcing new products, suppliers, manufacturers and production partners for existing and new product categories.
- Research and identify potential suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Request product information, samples, quotations and specifications from prospective suppliers.
- Compare supplier proposals based on pricing, quality, lead times, minimum order quantities and other relevant criteria.
- Assist management in evaluating sourcing options and supplier proposals.
Supplier Coordination
- Communicate regularly with existing and prospective suppliers regarding pricing, product availability, minimum order quantities, lead times, samples, packaging and delivery timelines.
- Follow up with suppliers on outstanding quotations, samples, purchase orders and production schedules.
- Maintain organized records of supplier communications, pricing, product information and follow-up activities.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with suppliers, manufacturers and other business partners.
Purchase Orders \& Delivery Follow-Up
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and ensure that relevant product, pricing and delivery information is accurate.
- Obtain and review supplier confirmations.
- Monitor production and delivery schedules and follow up with suppliers regarding delays or changes.
- Coordinate with suppliers and logistics partners to help ensure products are delivered on time and according to agreed specifications.
- Communicate delivery updates and potential issues to management and other internal stakeholders.
Product Costing \& Pricing Support
- Prepare and update product costing sheets, supplier pricing comparisons and purchasing documents.
- Review supplier quotations and assist with comparing product costs and commercial terms.
- Maintain up-to-date supplier pricing and product cost information.
- Assist management with reviewing pricing, margins and other product cost considerations.
- Work with the sales team to help ensure product pricing and supplier information are accurate and current.
New Product Development \& Launch Support
- Support the sourcing and launch of new consumer products.
- Coordinate product samples, specifications, packaging information and supplier documentation.
- Follow up with suppliers and manufacturers regarding product development requirements and timelines.
- Assist with organizing product information required by sales, marketing, operations and management.
- Help ensure required product and supplier documentation is collected and maintained.
Inventory \& Replenishment Support
- Assist with inventory planning and replenishment requirements when needed.
- Monitor stock levels and help identify upcoming purchasing requirements.
- Coordinate with sales and operations regarding product availability and anticipated demand.
- Assist with purchase planning to help reduce the risk of stock shortages or excess inventory.
Purchasing Administration
- Maintain organized supplier files, purchase orders, quotations, pricing sheets, product specifications and related documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of product samples and supplier information.
- Prepare spreadsheets, product summaries and internal purchasing reports.
- Track purchasing-related follow-up tasks and deadlines.
- Support management with general purchasing, supplier coordination and operational activities.
Internal \& External Coordination
- Coordinate with management, sales, operations, suppliers, manufacturers and logistics partners.
- Ensure internal teams have access to current product, pricing, availability and supplier information.
- Communicate purchasing updates, delivery timelines and potential issues to relevant stakeholders.
- Assist with resolving routine supplier, product or delivery-related issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1–2 years of relevant experience in purchasing, buying, procurement, supply chain, sales support, administration, retail or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Operations or a related field is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate purchasing and supplier records.
- Comfortable communicating professionally with suppliers, manufacturers, logistics partners and internal team members.
- Analytical and comfortable comparing prices, supplier terms, product specifications, quotations and delivery timelines.
- Comfortable working with numbers, product costs, pricing and margins.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and familiarity with common online business tools.
- Ability to prepare clear and organized purchasing documents, spreadsheets, product summaries and supplier files.
- Strong follow-up skills with the ability to remain persistent and proactive.
- Self-motivated, reliable and able to work independently without requiring close supervision.
- Professional, practical and solutions-oriented when dealing with day-to-day business matters.
- Interested in consumer products, food products, retail distribution, product sourcing and supply chain operations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where responsibilities may evolve as the company grows.
- Strong written and spoken English.
ASSETS
- Proficiency in French.
- Experience with consumer packaged goods (CPG), food products, appliances or other consumer products.
- Experience working with suppliers, manufacturers, importers or logistics partners.
- Experience with product sourcing, procurement or supplier negotiations.
- Experience with importation, international suppliers or overseas manufacturing.
- Experience supporting new product development or product launches.
- Familiarity with inventory planning, replenishment or supply chain operations.
- Experience working in a small-to-medium-sized business environment.
- Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. retail markets or North American distribution channels.
- WORK LOCATION
This position requires in-person attendance during the first three months. Following this initial period, the position may transition to a hybrid work schedule, depending on the successful candidate’s preference and the requirements of the role.
COMPENSATION
- Annual base salary range: $50,000–$60,000, depending on experience.
- The position may also include performance bonuses or other incentives depending on the successful candidate’s experience and the final structure of the role.
