EHS Manager (Field Based)

ERM is seeking an experienced EHS manager in Montreal (Canada) to assume a leadership role in environment, health, and safety and provide technical support on the client's site.
This position requires a highly qualified EHS expert with extensive expertise in several EHS disciplines, capable of supporting manufacturing operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing risks, and promoting continuous improvement initiatives. It is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with a fixed-term duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
The selected individual will act as a trusted advisor to the site management and operational teams, providing practical support, coaching, training, compliance supervision, and strategic EHS advice. This role requires regular on-site presence and active interaction with staff, contractors, and management.
Regulatory Compliance and EHS Program Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations, as well as company requirements.
- Manage EHS policies, procedures, permits, licenses, and required documents.
- Maintain regulatory files and support compliance reporting.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure site compliance with applicable requirements.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS management systems.
Manufacturing Support and Risk Management
- Provide daily EHS support to production, maintenance, engineering, and operations teams.
- Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, safety inspections, and hazard mitigation activities.
- Evaluate work conditions and identify opportunities to reduce risks and improve efficiency.
- Develop, implement, and improve EHS programs, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, fall protection, industrial hygiene, contractor safety, and management of change (MOC).
- Collaborate with operational teams to identify and manage EHS risks proactively.
Incident Investigations and Corrective Action Management
- Conduct investigations into incidents, injuries, near-misses, and environmental events.
- Perform root cause analyses and determine appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
- Track corrective actions to completion and verify their effectiveness.
- Disseminate incident learnings and improvement opportunities to site personnel.
Training, Employee Engagement, and Contractor Safety
- Provide EHS training to employees, supervisors, and contractors.
- Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Provide on-site coaching and mentoring to improve EHS performance.
- Manage contractor safety programs and work permit processes.
- Promote a positive and proactive health and safety culture at the site.
Audits, Reporting, and Management Support
- Conduct inspections and verifications of site operations, facilities, and management systems.
- Monitor EHS indicators, compliance levels, and improvement initiatives.
- Analyze performance trends and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and compliance updates for management.
- Formulate recommendations and provide strategic EHS advice to site management.
- Act as a trusted EHS resource for management and operational teams.
EHS Expertise
- In-depth expertise in several EHS disciplines.
- Ability to provide technical advice, regulatory interpretations, and practical solutions to operational teams.
- Strong knowledge of risk management, compliance programs, and EHS management systems.
On-Site Presence
- Regular physical presence on the client's site is required.
- Ability to perform on-site observations, inspections, audits, incident investigations, and employee engagement activities.
Language Requirement (for Montreal site only)
- Candidates supporting Montreal-based activities must be able to speak, read, and understand French at a professional level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related scientific discipline, preferably.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant EHS experience, ideally in the manufacturing or research and development sectors.
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferable.
- Experience in conducting health and safety risk assessments and monitoring industrial hygiene.
- Practical knowledge of federal, provincial, and local regulatory requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, with guidance and direction as needed.
- Strong work ethic and a marked desire to learn, grow, and succeed.
- Ability to translate goals into action plans, establish timelines, and work autonomously and as part of a team to achieve desired results.
- Demonstrated experience as a principal EHS specialist.
- In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations and standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Salary Transparency
For the EHS Manager position, we anticipate a base annual compensation ranging from $107,682 CAD to $135,108 CAD, which translates to $51.77 CAD/hour to $64.95 CAD/hour, for a fixed-term and non-exempt position. The compensation of an employee within this range will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, work schedule, travel requirements, sales or revenue indicators, and organizational or business needs. In some cases, an employee's compensation may fall outside this range based on the factors mentioned above. This position may be eligible for a performance bonus (occasional and fixed-term/Flexforce employees are not eligible for bonuses).
