Do you want to take on a challenging and impactful role? We are looking for a Principal Compliance and Ethics Advisor.
The Role
The Principal Compliance and Ethics Advisor reports to the Director of Compliance and Ethics. This role is crucial in ensuring that the organization complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies related to ethics and compliance, while fostering a culture of integrity and ethical behavior.
Responsibilities
Provide expert advice on regulatory compliance, legal, and ethical matters.
Manage the design, development, and implementation of a compliance and ethics program, including policies, guidelines, and procedures covering areas such as personal information protection, access to information, conflict of interest, and anti-corruption and bribery.
Manage the design, development, and implementation of the access to information and personal information protection program, and act as an expert in data protection.
Advise various functions of the company on data protection and privacy issues, and manage the Access to Information Office.
Develop training content, tracking tools, and accountability tools, and conduct training sessions on ethics and compliance requirements.
Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) when required.
Analyze statements of interest and provide recommendations to prevent, mitigate, and manage conflicts of interest.
Develop and maintain compliance-related documentation.
Prepare reports presented to the board of directors on compliance issues and activities.
Act as an expert during risk assessment exercises to identify potential compliance issues.
Conduct investigations and ensure the resolution of reports of ethical or compliance violations.
Advise senior management on emerging trends and risks in compliance.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in law and a member in good standing of the Quebec Bar and/or the Ontario Bar.
Minimum 5 years of experience in an ethics and compliance role and at least 8 years of experience in an internal legal advisor role within a private company, government agency, or relevant law firm.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of the applicable legislative framework and organizational compliance programs.
Excellent organizational, communication, and priority management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and managing documentation.
Strong culture of ethics and compliance and the ability to handle highly confidential information.
Ability to effectively collaborate with senior management and external stakeholders.
Proactive approach to identifying issues and seeking solutions; ability to work autonomously and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Excellent analytical and synthesis skills.
Strong adaptability to change.
Bilingualism (French and English) required.
