Role Summary

Under the supervision of the Optical R&D Group Lead, the Optical Technician contributes to projects by participating in the opto-mechanical and opto-electronic aspects of our products. They are responsible for the assembly and qualification of prototypes.

Under their level of experience and project needs, they may also participate in product design in collaboration with other team members. They work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering team to ensure the transition to production and provide technical support to the production team.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the design of optical subsystems.
• Identify and qualify new optical components and seek second sources.
• Establish assembly procedures.
• Plan and execute optical product qualification.
• Provide support to production engineering.
• Write appropriate documentation.
• Provide first-level technical support to production teams.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of optical principles, both in classical optics and fiber optics, as well as optoelectronics (lasers, detectors).
• College diploma in optics, physics, or electronics, combined with relevant experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
• Proficiency with measurement equipment and instruments used in optical testing and characterization.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Knowledge of industry standards and norms is an asset.
• Knowledge of electronics and/or mechanics would be an advantage.
• Comfortable with the Windows environment and Microsoft Office suite.
