Senior Cost Accountant – Cost of Goods Sold

Winpak is looking for a Senior Cost Accountant – Cost of Goods Sold for its plant in Vaudreuil (Quebec).

The position is hybrid after the training period.

The Senior Cost Accountant – Cost of Goods Sold plays a key role in analyzing and tracking the financial performance of production operations. He or she is responsible for examining, explaining, and presenting production discrepancies to management, while ensuring the accuracy of inventories and maintaining the parameters and cost allocation rates of production costs. Through rigorous analysis, he or she actively contributes to cost optimization and strategic decision-making.

Main Responsibilities

• Analyze and explain production discrepancies on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and cumulative basis, and produce related performance reports.
• Perform weekly entries of production discrepancies and make necessary corrections to accounting entries.
• Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual analyses of direct labor expense discrepancies for each department.
• Supervise and coordinate revisions of statistical process control (SPC) for raw materials.
• Examine purchase price variance (PPV) by comparing invoiced costs to standard costs for inventory items.
• Establish and maintain production cost allocation rates.
• Maintain and update operation center parameters in financial systems.
• Examine inventory revaluations resulting from changes in product structure or fluctuations in purchase prices.
• Perform various end-of-month entries and analyses, including budgetary, margin, and ad-hoc analyses.
• Analyze expenses related to repairs and maintenance, tooling, and supplies, based on machine hours.

Desired Profile

• University degree in a relevant field (accounting, finance, or related discipline).
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment (packaging sector is an asset).
• CPA designation, preferably with a management accounting profile.
• Experience in supervising staff.
• Excellent analytical and computer skills, particularly in Excel, as well as good knowledge of ERP systems.
• Strong organization and multitasking skills.
• Proactive approach to management and problem-solving.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, both oral and written.
• Proficiency in French and English (translates with different business units outside Quebec).
