The challenges you will face
Under the authority of the immediate supervisor, you develop and implement public affairs and media relations strategies in accordance with the strategic vision.
You contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the City's communication policies and standards.
In this capacity, you act as an expert advisor and work closely with members of the executive team, the mayor's office, and various internal clients to develop strategies and manage diverse mandates, recommending best practices in public affairs and media relations.
You are also called upon to coordinate and collaborate on various internal and external projects and interventions involving public affairs expertise.
And more specifically:
You develop, collaborate on, and implement, as needed, public affairs and media relations strategies and initiatives;
You act as an expert advisor in the development of integrated communication campaigns and propose public affairs strategies;
You receive, analyze, and respond to media requests and act, as needed, as a spokesperson;
You monitor the media landscape and conduct strategic monitoring of news and your field of activity for best practices in public affairs. You analyze, evaluate opportunities and trends, make recommendations to achieve targets and offer greater visibility to the City;
You plan and execute media events (press conferences and briefings, photo ops, technical briefings, etc.) by setting schedules, strategies, and work plans;
You develop, write, or coordinate the production of various public affairs-specific communication tools, such as press releases, argument files, interview plans, speeches, presentations, event scenarios, or any other relevant document, and ensure the required validations and approvals;
You act as an expert advisor in the production of press releases, ensure the final writing, coordination for linguistic review and/or translation, and the required approvals, notably with the cabinet.
The ideal profile for us
Hold a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, political science, journalism, or any other relevant field;
Have at least eight (8) years of experience in media relations, such as: Deploying proactive approaches to journalists;
Managing media requests;
Writing and distributing public affairs tools;
Conducting interviews as a spokesperson;
Organizing media events;
Be able to assess potential issues and reputational risks for a large organization, ideally in the public sector;
Have experience working in collaboration with the political milieu is desirable;
Have experience as an expert advisor to managers from various fields;
Be available on some evenings and weekends to respond to media requests, as well as to urgent and occasional needs.
