Lawyer Analyst, Professional Liability Insurance

Role in the Organization

The person holding this position is responsible for the progression and follow-up of various tasks related to claims arising from the professional liability of CPAs, in compliance with the insurance policy. They also answer questions from CPAs and the public regarding professional liability insurance. Additionally, they participate in the implementation of risk prevention activities.

Main Responsibilities/Activities

• Receives claims and analyzes the applicability of insurance protection;
• Conducts investigations, assesses the professional liability of CPAs involved in a claim, and sets provisions;
• Negotiates within the permitted authority of settlement and drafts settlement documents;
• Mandates external lawyers and specialists when required and establishes the strategy based on their recommendations;
• Participates in mediations and amicable settlement conferences and accompanies insured parties, particularly before the Small Claims Court;
• Identifies the most appropriate solutions and strategies to apply in each case, based on the investigation conducted or reports obtained from specialists and lawyers, while considering the various financial elements involved;
• Follows up on claim files, controls costs and deadlines, documents the files, and records notes in the computer system;
• Answers information requests from CPAs and the public and informs insured parties about the various stages of their claim;
• Participates in the preparation and drafting of documents for the decision committee;
• Actively participates in the development of the strategy and the implementation of risk prevention activities for the Insurance Fund. Writes articles, develops training workshops, and creates various tools to prevent claims;
• Performs any other tasks required within the scope of their duties.

Qualifications

• Member of the Quebec Bar
• 4 to 6 years of experience in a position with similar functions and responsibilities.
