Dates may be flexible according to those planned by the educational institution.

The duration of the internship cannot exceed that planned in the study program.

Schedule: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Work arrangement: Hybrid (remote work and in-person according to government policy)

Commissioner for Police Ethics (COMDP): Legal Services Department (DSJ).

About us: Under the immediate supervision of his or her internship supervisor and the Director of Legal Services, the intern will assist the Commissioner for Police Ethics' team, represent the Commissioner before courts under the supervision of the internship supervisor. His or her role is that of a prosecutor (analogous to the syndic of a professional order). Additionally, he or she may be called upon to conduct jurisprudential research and write procedural acts under the supervision of the internship supervisor or a rejection project when the complaint does not lead to a citation. He or she may also be called upon to perform other tasks to acquire the knowledge necessary for the development of his or her professional skills, to the benefit of the organization.

What you can expect on a daily basis

  • Prepare hearing files;
  • Prepare a strategy or negotiation plan;
  • Analyze files;
  • Write procedural acts, decision projects, and various legal documents;
  • Make representations before the Police Ethics Administrative Tribunal / Quebec Court under the supervision of the internship supervisor.

Salary scale: For remuneration purposes only, the tasks related to the internship are paired with the 115-00 employment class (lawyer or notary) and the minimum hourly rate is $37.52. A 6.5% surcharge is added to this rate to compensate for certain social benefits.

Finally, it is possible that at the end of your studies and under certain conditions, you may participate in a particular selection process to access a regular or occasional job.

Desired profile and application requirements

Here are some elements we are looking for

  • Possess good writing skills;
  • Demonstrate judgment and discernment, show a marked interest in the profession, and demonstrate effectiveness in your communications, both verbal and written;
  • Passing the Bar exams in Quebec is a condition of admissibility.

Requirements to meet for your internship

  • In addition to matching the above profile, the person must:
  • Be enrolled in a study program recognized by the Minister of Education or the Minister of Higher Education in an educational institution located in Quebec or elsewhere or be enrolled in a study program recognized by the competent authority in the place where you are pursuing your studies and be domiciled in Quebec.

University level: Law

  • Be legally authorized to work in Canada;
  • Have appropriate knowledge of French for the duties of the position.
