Company Description
Enviri is a global diversified company of engineering products and services serving the world's environmental, steel, rail, and energy sectors.
Harsco's environmental division is the world's leading provider of material handling and environmental services to the steel and metals industries. Our on-site plant services and resource recovery services offer sustainable solutions that maximize environmental benefits and return valuable raw materials to production. We have also developed a range of by-products for specialized applications in industry, construction, and agriculture, which utilize Harsco's expertise in mineral materials.
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious plant operator to manage, monitor, and maintain our high-capacity radial material handling and storage conveyor systems. In this role, you will be responsible for supervising the automated flow of bulk materials, adjusting radial/hydraulic pile configurations, and performing essential preventive maintenance. You will work closely with heavy equipment operators (loaders, excavators) to maximize production efficiency while maintaining a clean and safe worksite.
Key Responsibilities
System Operation and Stockpile Management
Equipment Control: Safely start, stop, and regulate stationary and portable storage conveyors using local control panels or wireless remote control boxes.
Stockpile Optimization: Use hydraulic and mechanical systems to pivot, raise, lower, or extend conveyor spouts to create uniform and stable stockpiles while minimizing material segregation.
Flow Monitoring: Continuously monitor material feed rates to prevent overloading, belt slippage, or material spillage at transfer points.
Inspection and Preventive Maintenance
Pre-Shift Inspections: Conduct daily rounds to check conveyors, belt alignment, idler rolls, pulleys, and structural integrity.
Fluid and Mechanical Checks: Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of hydraulic oil, gear lubricants, and grease points on all drive motors and pivot assemblies.
Component Maintenance: Adjust belt scrapers, remove material buildup in chutes/hoppers, and replace worn-out parts as needed.
Site Safety and Support
Maintenance: Keep walkways clean around conveyor structures and coordinate with loader operators to remove debris and spills under equipment.
Emergency Response: Use and test emergency stop cords and limit switches; immediately halt operations in case of danger or mechanical failure.
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): Strictly follow OSHA/MSHA lockout/tagout procedures before performing any manual cleaning, maintenance, or mechanical adjustments.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience: Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience operating conveyors, quarry/crushing, or similar bulk material handling systems in mining, quarrying, recycling, or heavy construction environments.
Mechanical Aptitude: Good understanding of mechanical systems, including belt tracking, hydraulics, pulleys, and gearboxes.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, walk on uneven terrain, climb conveyor walkways, and lift up to 50 lb.
Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed for production requirements.
Key Skills
Safety First: Uncompromising commitment to workplace safety rules and environmental regulations.
Situational Awareness: High vigilance towards changes in piles, wind factors, and moving heavy machinery on-site.
Communication: Excellent radio communication skills to easily coordinate with upstream processing operators and mobile loader operators.
Additional Information
We offer competitive salaries, as well as comprehensive benefits including health, dental, life insurance, and a contribution to your RRSP.
