The Project Manager in Automation is a central actor in improving, modifying, and automating equipment to increase safety, quality, reliability, and performance of operations.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

• Plan and manage automation projects, equipment modification, process improvement, and CAPEX investment projects, from need identification to commissioning.
• Write requirements specifications (URS), functional analyses, technical specifications, execution plans, schedules, and budget estimates.
• Actively participate in the design, integration, modification, and optimization of existing or new automated systems.
• Develop, modify, diagnose, or validate programmable logic controller (PLC) programs and operator interfaces.
• Serve as a technical reference for maintenance and operations teams on complex issues related to PLCs, HMIs, speed variators, industrial networks, instrumentation, machine safety, or automated equipment.
• Evaluate the impacts of proposed modifications on safety, quality, validation, locking, maintenance, operations, and technical documentation.
• Create and maintain up-to-date technical documentation: drawings, manuals, procedures, PLC/HMI backups, programming standards, I/O lists, and project files.
• Contribute to the standardization of control architectures, programming methods, backups, industrial cybersecurity best practices, and the longevity of systems.
• Identify and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement to increase efficiency, reliability, safety, and overall performance of equipment.
• Support daily operations when required and perform any other tasks aimed at improving department performance.
• Required Education and Competencies

Education and Work Experience

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automated manufacturing engineering, mechatronics, or another relevant specialization.
• Membership in the Order of Engineers of Quebec.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, technical project management, or manufacturing equipment integration.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), industrial networks, speed variators, instrumentation, and automated systems.
• Knowledge of machine safety principles, locking, equipment validation, industrial cybersecurity, and PLC/HMI backup management.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, diagnose root causes, and propose sustainable solutions.
• Natural leadership, autonomy, diligence, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Excellent communication, influence, and team-mobilization skills across multidisciplinary teams.
• Technological curiosity and ability to bring new ideas to advance equipment, methods, and standards.
• Ability to manage pressure, changing priorities, and operational context interventions.
• Bilingualism in French and English is required, as several clients, suppliers, or sister plants are located in the United States or outside Quebec.
