Aeronautics Technician (Aerial Firefighting Aircraft)

With or Without M1-M2 License

The Aircraft Maintenance Division (DMA) is part of the General Directorate of the Government Air Service (DGSAG) and is responsible for the following within the Ministry:

• Perform maintenance, inspection, repair, and modification work on the fleet of 23 aircraft used by the DGSAG for wildfire fighting (CL 415, CL-215T, CL-215P aerial firefighting aircraft), aeromedical transport (CL-601, CL 650, and Dash 8 aircraft), and territory surveillance and search and rescue (Bell 412EP, Bell 412EPX, and Airbus H145 helicopters);
• Modernize the aircraft and make interior modifications as needed for mission requirements;
• Ensure aircraft maintenance in compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations and within the framework of a Safety Management System and a Quality Assurance Program;
• Manage the training and skill development needs of the staff;
• Stay up-to-date with new technologies.

The person holding the position performs maintenance work on the DGSAG's aerial firefighting aircraft with their colleagues. More specifically, they carry out inspections and repairs requiring the signature of a licensed technician, taking into account the procedures, standards, and aviation regulations in force. The main tasks include:

• Perform periodic inspections and necessary inspections to certify the airworthiness of the aircraft;
• Address reported anomalies by conducting a technical analysis and evaluation of the problem and making the necessary corrections;
• Conduct the required tests in accordance with the maintenance control manual and the requirements of Transport Canada;
• Complete and ensure all documentation related to maintenance, repair, and correction work on the aircraft and its components in compliance with the regulations;
• Write various reports, particularly regarding defects encountered;
• Suggest and propose possible improvements to work organization.

• Annual Salary:
• Without license (non-certified grade): $57,001 to $62,950* based on experience
• With M1-M2 license (certified grade): $64,202 to $90,104* based on experience
• This remuneration corresponds to a treatment scale increase equivalent to one week of 40-hour work. In addition to the base remuneration:
• Performance bonuses based on work schedule (evening, on-call, etc.);
• 2% bonus in connection with the Canadian Aviation Regulations;
• 10% attraction and retention bonus;
• Fixed tool allowance of $14.22 per pay;
• Possibility of working overtime.

The remuneration is determined based on the relevance of your additional education and experience in relation to the position. Therefore, it is important to detail them in your application form, which will serve as a reference.

Desired Profile and Application Procedures

The person sought must meet the job requirements

• For the non-certified grade: Hold a college diploma in aeronautics with a relevant specialization*

+ A person may also be admitted if they have completed an acceptable basic training program approved by the federal authority; and compensate each year of missing education with two years of relevant experience on the main aircraft systems or different aircraft structures.

• For the certified grade: Hold an aircraft maintenance license issued by Transport Canada (M1-M2);
• Be a holder of a valid Class 5 driver's license;
• Possess Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status, or a work permit issued by the federal authority competent to occupy a position in the Quebec public service2;
• Have appropriate French language skills for the functions.
