The challenges that await you
The City of Laval is in great turmoil and its territory is undergoing full development. The Legal Affairs Service proudly handles all legal matters for the City. As a lawyer, you will represent the City before all common and administrative courts and act, upon request, as a legal advisor to the City's services.
In the course of this mandate, you will be called upon to act in criminal cases under Part 27 of the Criminal Code, as well as in penal, statutory, and regulatory cases. Specifically, you will be called upon to:
- Study the applications submitted by examining the procedures and documents (i.e. investigation reports) relating to criminal offenses as well as offenses against municipal regulations and certain laws of the Quebec legislature;
- Meet with witnesses, victims, complainants, and judicial participants in order to, if necessary, authorize prosecutions against offenders, complete the submitted evidence, ensure the assignment of witnesses, advise police officers, and advise persons acting as representatives of the City of Laval (i.e. inspectors);
- Plead before the Municipal Court and, if necessary, the appellate courts.
The ideal profile for us
- Be a member in good standing of the Quebec Bar for at least six (6) years;
- Hold a bachelor's degree in law;
- Have relevant experience as a lawyer, particularly in representing before courts and settling disputes in criminal, penal, statutory, and regulatory cases;
- Be equipped with an excellent legal sense;
- Be skilled in expressing and writing in a clear, concise, and precise manner;
- Be dynamic and able to work under pressure;
- Be a team player.
