Health Quebec - West Island of Montreal - University is currently looking for a recreation therapist to fill a permanent, full-time, daytime position within the new facility: Denis-Benjamin-Viger Senior's House: Health Quebec West Island of Montreal – University | Denis-Benjamin-Viger Senior's House.
The Denis-Benjamin-Viger Senior's House will accommodate 192 elderly individuals with significant loss of autonomy, with approximately 80% presenting major neurocognitive disorders. The House will offer a human-dimensioned living environment, where it is pleasant to live, resembling as much as possible a home, at the heart of the relationships between residents, their families, family caregivers, staff, and the community.

Brief job description:
Your mandate will be to develop, improve, and implement individualized and group therapeutic recreation programs. You will propose functional programs, focused on maintaining physical strength, for a clientele primarily composed of elderly individuals. You will suggest activities that will have a positive impact on the physical, emotional, and social behaviors of our residents to promote their physical and cognitive autonomy. You will be called upon to coordinate, plan, and animate these activities, emphasizing individuals who are isolated, with little or no family. You will support the care providers by suggesting appropriate moments of tenderness adapted to the residents.
Work schedule: Monday to
Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including one weekend every two weeks.
- This includes two shifts per week from 11:00
- AM to 7:00
- PM or 12:00
PM to 8:00 PM, depending on the department's needs.
Daily role and responsibilities
- Develop and implement individual and group activity programs;
- Ensure the compliance of activity programs according to objectives and areas of interest;
- Ensure the compliance and safety of activities in the programming, in close collaboration with the site management team and the various actors in the environment;
- Provide support to the multidisciplinary team composed of nurses, care providers, physiotherapists, and members of the Recreation Service;
- Propose activities to optimize the use of the sensory room;
- Ensure the welcome and supervision of interns, volunteers, or other partners;
- Develop links with the community;
- Participate in meetings and activities of the program;
- Work with members of the Recreation Service to enrich the offer of individual and group activities.
Qualified candidate
- Holds a bachelor's degree in recreation therapy or a similar academic discipline*;
- Has knowledge of current practices, theories, and methodologies in therapeutic recreation;
- Has the ability to communicate easily, both orally and in writing, in French and English;
- Demonstrates autonomy and skills to work within a team;
- Has experience in animating elderly individuals with loss of autonomy, an asset.
