Role Summary
- This is a 100% on-site position.
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design and continuous improvement of HVAC chillers. The successful candidate will develop high-performance, manufacturable solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Design mechanical systems and components using 3D CAD software.
- Create manufacturing drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.
- Develop reliable, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions.
- Participate in new product development from concept through production launch.
Analysis & Validation
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes.
- Conduct prototype testing and validate designs.
- Investigate design failures and implement corrective actions.
Manufacturing Support
- Provide technical support to Production and Manufacturing teams.
- Resolve manufacturing and assembly issues.
- Manage engineering changes and improve existing designs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost reduction, and efficiency.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Purchasing, Quality, and Service teams.
- Participate in field issue resolution and engineering analyses, including FMEA, DFMA, and root cause investigations.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain engineering documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (CSA, ASME, ISO) and customer requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and test procedures.
- Perform other related duties and projects as required.

Academic Profile and Experience
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (Junior Engineer/EIT or P.Eng.) or eligible for registration, an asset.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations.
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Bill of Materials (BOM) management.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of ASME, CSA, ISO, and other engineering standards, an asset.
Experience
- 2 to 4 years of experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in industrial equipment design, HVAC systems, pressure vessels, or specialized machinery, an asset.
- Experience in supporting manufacturing operations, preferred.
